Sky HD with HDMI splitter

    Hi All

Im in the process of getting sky HD installed. At present I have regular sky in one room and then its wired to send that RF signal to all other tvs around the house on an Aux channel. So whatever is on the sky box is on the other tvs around the house.

Because sky HD has only 1 HDMI lead if I want the same setup as present I will only get basic sky and not HD on those other TV's. A friend of mine told me there is a way around it by using a HDMI box to split the signal . He said you will need to buy a decent box around €500, which seems crazy money.
I found this splitter on Amazon & will want to use with a 15M HDMI cable for the other tv in the next room.

    Any help will be appreciated.

I use a labgear HDMI splitter/router for my upstairs tv which works no problem. If you use a good quality cable it should be ok . €500 is way off the mark

3 WAY HDMI splitter in Aldi-€11.99, a bargain as it is the same make as one of the more expensive brands and is simply re badged for Aldi.My local store has loads in stock as most people don't know what they are.
I have one myself and it works perfectly-even has a remote to switch between devices if needed.

Zerks I think thats a 3 into 1 rather than 1 to 3 , more of a HDMI source selector if I read it right.

you will still get the same channels upstairs, although they will not be in HD,

I have a hd box in the living room and send the signal to the pc in the kitchen, so i can watch bbchd in the kitchen ,although not in 'HD' if you understand me.

if you are going more than 15M you can use a couple of these

I though the whole point of those HDMI splitters was that you did GET HD on the other tv. ????

I wasn't sure if you wanted HD in the other room. HDMI on the other TV's

(btw you wont be able to have 5.1 sound in the other room) sky hdmi only carries stereo.

All types of HDMI devices such as DVD players, PS3, satellite set-top boxes are supported by these splitters. By using this device, both audio and video signals are transmitted digitally over one cable with zero signal loss. These HDMI splitters support HD resolutions of 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p, computer resolutions up to 1920 x 1200 and a bandwidth of 225MHz.

RegardingHDMI cables over 10m should i buy a good quality one. Do you really need one of high quality ?
I found these ones which are supposed to be good. They have "Genuine 24awg" if thats essential or not ??

These are cheaper and longer just in case http://www.satsklep.pl/index.php?s=produkt&id_prod=1423&id_kat=137&id_typu=0 A bargain at €17

The guys in the Foreign Satellite Forum use this site a lot so you can trust it.

Yeah I guess from reading forums HDMI cables work or they dont work. Its because of the 10m+ range I though I needed a high end cable. I did get conned into buying a 1.5m Monster cable (€80) a couple of years ago for my HD telly.

I have tried to add on that site.
    1 cable costs €17 + €13 shipping.
When i try to add more than one cable it does not give me an option for ireland ?

I think i will go for the HDMI 1.4 cables. I'm thinking about 3D in the near future so want the cables to be compatible

Are the 1.3 cables not compatible with 3D? They are being used for it now anyway.

If you need help on the Satsklep site try the foreign satellite forum,a lot of posters there use it and will be happy to give advice.

Yeah I have read some reports on this . But im not sure ?

    From High-Def Digest
Fans of 3D movies can rest easy. You probably won’t need to upgrade your Blu-ray player, and you almost certainly won’t need to pick up new cables.

Remember back when the 3D specification for Blu-ray was announced and somehow the Playstation 3 made the list of compatible devices? It was said that a firmware update would make the popular Blu-ray playing game console compatible, and that’s true. It’s not just the PS3 though, that update will also apply to any BD-Live capable Blu-ray player.

In fact, any device that has a method for updating the firmware can be kicked up to support the new format. Cable set-top boxes and satellite receivers included.

Like most things though, the 3D update for already existing HDMI 1.3 products comes with a catch, and it’s a catch in the form of reduced video quality. While HDMI 1.4 cables and devices will be capable of shooting out 3D pictures in full 1080p, HDMI 1.3 just can’t handle it.

The problem is that for a 3D picture, two images have to be shown nearly simultaneously. Since HDMI 1.3 can’t handle two 1080p pictures at that speed, you’ll get two 1080i pictures. It’s not a huge downgrade when all is said and done. The real clincher comes with TV signals.

Since cable boxes normally show a 1080i image, they’ll be stepped down to 540i to handle 3D. With HDMI 1.3 cable boxes, you’ll have the choice between HD and 3D, but not both.

Just came across this thread in a search for HDMI Splitter. I know its' old but I figure this is the correct place to ask!?

I'm looking for a HDMI Splitter.
What I see on EBay or Amazon get very mixed reviews. A lot of 'doesn't work' reviews!!

I have just one HDMI connection on Television and want to have both Sky Box and Media Player conencted.

I see some splitters won't work with HD Sky Box but they should work on standard Sky Box??

Would any of you guys know where is the best place to get one of these?
How much should I have to pay?

What you're looking for is a HDMI switch - something like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Duronic-Switch-output-Switcher-Warrantee/dp/B0020426AG/

You really shouldn't be paying big money. No more than €20 in a retail shop I would suggest. I have one of the ones in the link, got it from Tesco a while back - works fine.

You say "should work on a standard Sky Box??" - does your Sky box definitely have an HDMI output? Confirm this before buying anything...

Also, you'll have to buy HDMI cables if you don't already have them. One from each device to the switch, and one from switch to TV. Search for Amazonbasics on Amazon - their cables are good quality and at a good price.

    Super stuff. Thanks.
Ya Sky Box has a HDMI output.
I'll have a pop into Tesco on the way home and see if they have anything. Never thought of Tesco tbh

I have a similar setup with over 4 years. I have my SkyHD box in the living room attached to a HDMI splitter which splits the signal into two HDMI cables one to the TV in the living room and another which goes into the HDMI to CAT5 balun. This balun then sends the HDMI over two CAT5 cables down 20 metres away to the bedroom where there is another CAT5 balun which outputs to HDMI and is connected to the TV, there is absolutely no loss of quality and it is the same as if the Sky box is there in the bedroom. I also have a RF cable running attached to the Magic Eye as my current setup does not transmit back the remote control signal so I use the RF to send back the Remote control commands via the Magic eye.
