A friend of mine who lived across the road from me used to have one. I only had a cheap BMX at the time that was my first bike. I was fair jealous. This would have been in the earl ninetys and I'd say it was probably 2nd hand as I don't remember anything on it working or at least anything electrical.

Yeah I remember them as a kind of kids version of the sinclair c5. like tron meets knight rider. how cool would that be sitting at the bottom of the stairs on christmas morning? and a built in computer years ahead of its time!

Christ, that's a blast from the past. I remember thinking they were awesome as a kid.
Clearly inspired by the Star Wars era.

As far as I remember, most of the crossbar was taken up with BATTERIES!
You know those big ones you put in Torches? About 8 of them i think!

Nah, it was a dog. Even aged ten I knew that. Spent most of our time trying to take bits off our bikes to make them lighter.

There was a rich kid in every locality that had one..
An Siopa Rothar in Limerick has one hanging from the ceiling if anyone wants to relive childish bike envy. .

There was an old fella in Cork city who used to cycle round Cork on one IIRC.

Even as a kid, I knew the vektar was a piece of crap.

Never saw one actually working and the kid who owned it, could never keep up with the rest of the group and was afraid to pull wheelies in case the plastic piece of crap fell to pieces.

most iconic bikes raleigh ever made were imo in this order Chopper , Burner , Grifter.
Never owned a chopper but had its baby brother the tommahawk, I loved my gold super burner with its skyway mag wheels which replaced my grifter which was as heavy as an elephant, and that thick saddle. . . . .that chunks kept coming off with each mishap.
Wanted a Vektar, but my parents had the presense of mind to know l would have broken every plastic piece on it within a few weeks

I wanted one then and I want one now, my Mum wouldn't let me have it then and (I'm sure) my GF wont let me have one now... my life is ruled by bikes and women.

    Happy days really:)

It was the Raleigh Maverick i lusted after as a kid. The cousin had one and compared to my singlespeed gate, in my young mind, it rocked.
Even now,in the unlikely event i ever see one for sale, a purchase will be made.

I had a Raleigh Budgie, the baby brother of the chopper. It was purple and very cool. Later on I had a raleigh medale racer and then a raleigh maverick. I nearly had a grifter but my dad said it was too big for me. I'd love an old retro medale if anyone has one lying around. It would be a nice restoration project.
A neighbour had a Raleigh bomber years ago. Now that was seriously cool.

We all knew someone who owned one alright!

I really wanted one when I was younger. I just had to settle for my Raleigh BMX bike. Little did I know they'd come back into popularity !
