Frustrating car insurance situation... help!

OK I'm just looking for some advice for a bad car insurance situation. Will try and keep it short.
So in summer 2009, my car was in a prang with another vehicle, we'll say a Hiace type van, driven by person X. To cut a long story short, I'm accepting no liability as X's vehicle came over my side of the road on a bend and took out the right back door panels etc (no witnesses unfortunately). Made my statements and submissions etc, then was given the news by my insurance company that the vehicle X was in was someone else's, let's say Y, and Y had passed away (apparently cos the vehicle was Y's, the claim is against Y). So ok, the situation right now is that nothing has happened, Y's will is in probate or something and nobody can tell me when it's going to be resolved, like how long is a piece of string... :(
Just to add that my insurance company and the claims company they are using to deal with claims, have both been incredibly unhelpful and have nailed me two years in a row for double premiums.

Now in the meantime, the car I was driving is off the road (it's driveable but a big job needs to be done and I have to hold off for the time being so am parking it). So with my insurance coming up for renewal again, what I want is a very low fire and theft policy, essentially to cover it being parked in my drive. My own insurance company will be looking to nail me again this year so my question is, does anyone know an insurance company that would a) provide basic cover for a car that's not being driven and b) look favourably on my situation wrt the claim and not take it into account, given that it's totally out of my hands and not my fault that it's dragging on?

Sorry for waffling on, would really appreciate some comments on this from anyone who's been through similar....

As there was no claim made against you how did you lose your no claims bonus?

Well my insurance co paid for my damage (between 2K and 3K) so they have to recoup that. Isn't it that once there's any claim outstanding, your premium goes up? My premium doubled...

Check if you can bring a civil suit against X for damages? Let them know that either they get sued, or the estate of Y gets sued for crashing into your car.
