Hi all new boardsie here, been lurking in the cycling forum for a while. Anyway since I got my bike (thanks green party :-)) I've been following the racing season online and caught all the Ardennes classics, great stuff! I'v had a few bets on these races but no luck so far, so I'm wondering if you know of any good tipping sites or if any of you guys 'study the form'? With the price of gear I could do with a few wins! Great forum here btw.

Quite a few people on here would not so much study the form, as keep an eye on who's winning what, so would have a fair idea of who to watch out for. Indeed in the threads about most races at least one person gets the right rider (though maybe more luck than judgement!)

I've been betting with paddy power and the odds weren't great for those riders, usually 4/5 or 10/11 so I tended to go for the 2nd favourites as they were a worthwhile e/w bet.for example Andy schleck at liege Bastogne liege was 12/1 and came in third, had him each way but they only paid top 2 unfortunately! I suppose with a phenomenal rider like Gilbert I should just take the odds I can get?!

Who have you been betting on?

PaddyPower cover most of the big races and a few of the smaller ones (they are now offering odds on Tour of Romandie stages). Interestingly they are also offering odds on the TdF without Contador. They weren't offering the Spring classics as a package though......a nice treble on Gilbert would probably have put your kids through college.

To be honest i think you d be better off saving all the money you plan on using to gamble and putting it somewhere same.

If you cant afford to lose don't bet. And unless you ve been following something for years and are fully confident and knowledgeable you're p'issing against the wind. Add in the fact that you are using a high street bookie with big margins and terrible odds and in the long run you have little hope.

If you ignore everything i say and must persist at least look at the exchanges (betfair, betdaq etc) to lower the margins.

I do a bit of gambling, small stakes usually. I put €50 in a Paddy Power account about 10 years ago, lost it all about 5 times and put another 50 in each time, but the last time I had to go to the well was about 5 years ago and I've now got over €200 in my account.

The difference is patience and discipline - no stupid bets, no betting on stuff I know nothing about and small stakes unless I've a strong feeling (€50 would probably be my biggest bet and I could count the number of bets that size on one hand).

I would say betting on cycling is not going to make you rich due to the numerous variables with the sport and the fact that bookies will always cover themselves and offer really low odds (Cancellara was a ridiculous 4/5 with PP on the morning of P-R).

For that reason I don't bet that often on cycling. I had €5 on Goss in MSR at 8/1 (it was about 50km out) which is my only win from about 5 bets so far this season.

This site is quite useful at times..... http://velotips.com/

Edit: by "stupid bets", I mean novelty markets or betting for "interest", e.g. betting over or under 2.5 goals in football games just to have an interest is something I've knocked on the head.

I placed a bet on Van Den Broeck at 40/1 each way for the tour, without Contador. He wont win it but a push for top 3 is realistic.

Great price for a guy who has been improving year on year.

With guys like Wiggins, Kloden and Brajkovic ahead of him in the betting this represents good value.

I did the exact same thing. Logged on Monday morning looking forward to my earnings and discovered they were only paying out for 1st and 2nd!

What a joke- I suppose the field was only 200 or so strong though.

Did you predict a "soft landing"??
