Macbook 2006 replacement hard drive

    Hi all,

My MB 2006 recently stopped working and is making a clicking sound which a bit of googling suggests the hard drive has failed. I took the opportunity to upgrade to a new MBP (15 inch 2.0 ghz i7) but would like to see if it is worthwhile getting the old one working for my mother who is looking for her first laptop.

Does anyone have any recommendations of somewhere to get the HD replaced and an OS installed on the new one? And ballpark price? Not sure if it would even be worth our while.

    Thanks

You can do it yourself. It's easy. If you leave it somewhere they'll rip you off. You'll need to get an internal 2.5" SATA notebook drive. Have a look on Komplett. Make sure you have the right screwdriver as well.

It's a Core Duo, right? I think this is the right guide:

Thanks a million SP, I never knew such a guide existed but that seems very doable. I think I might just give it a go!

Thanks for the heads up bedlam, I will ensure I have the correct screwdrivers before ordering any new HD. Thanks all for the help!
