Recommendations for Hardtail MTB

    Hey guys!

    I'm looking to get a bike but don't really know anything about them.
    Have been looking on various websites around Dublin and it's looking like I'm going to have to spend between E300 - 400 to get a decent bike.

    For just under 400 I could get a either a Giant or a Trek which seem to be good makes.

    Just wondering what ye think or could ye recommend any of the shops around town that might be a bit flexible on price or throw in a few extras. Btw just need the bike for getting around, nothing else.

    Don't bother with a mountainbike then. Something like this would be a lot more suitable:

    Cheers Morgan nice bikes but kinda prefer the look of the MTB's.

    Any particular reason 1 of the ones you mentioned would be better apart from the fact i wouldn't really be doing trails etc. Is it a comfort thing for city riding?

    Cycling a mountain bike on roads and that is just a lot more hard work than a bike designed specifically for roads. You'll have to pedal a lot more for a start.

    Suspension on a mountain bike is a waste of energy and money on a bike you're using on the road. I know the roads are getting worse, but there's no need for suspension.

    If I lock my suspension out It makes it very uncomfortable while cycling, It might just be cause I'm used to the suspension but I don't think I could cycle the roads without it. Also keeping up to a young lad(about 20 so same as me) on a racer going quickly means It can't sap too much energy! :)

    Yea but take a look at how much less revolutions his feet are doing compared to yours though :D

    Have been looking at hybrids as an alternative and think I'd probably prefer the stiffer suspension. Was on a mates new MTB last week and it did seem a bit bouncy.

    Anyone bought off any of the UK sites?
    Some really good prices by comparison to Irish ones and about E30 delivery.

    www.chainreactioncycles.com is free delivery(I think??). Better to buy local though. :)

    He might be rubbish at cycling.
