Simple question, do you share your boards.ie account with anyone?
I share mine with my partner, she has used mine at least eight times.
She doesn't have her own account due to her work and not having the time to maintain her own(thats the reason she gave me!),but she reads through boards up and down,if something interests her she posts about it.
So do you share boards account with anyone or is it just your little 'private haven'?

I don't get sharing accounts. It's free and only takes a few seconds to make your own.

Would sharing a account not be against the rules?

it's like having a joint Facebook account. Everyone thinks you're a c*nt for it and knows that if you had any balls that you'd have your own account and leave the sloppy stuff to da wimminz!

Maybe so,but as far as I can make out, the rules also say that you cant have two accounts running off the same ip address.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
    Cheers,
    iguy.

I don't see how what she does for a living has to do with not having her own account. As long as she stays anonymous and not post her name/photo it shouldn't matter. And there is nothing to maintain. Maybe she just likes to keep an eye on what you're posting.

Sharing your boards.ie account is against the site's Terms of Use:

"Boards.ie is made available for your personal, non-commercial use only, except where otherwise authorised by us."

You need to inform the site administrators that you have a pooled account, how many people use the account, and who is responsible for what content. This is because YOU are legally responsible for what is posted under your username, and it is strongly inadvisable to have a pooled account unless it is for commercial reasons.

Had a quick glance at the post-count, and thought maybe.
then looked at the join-date, '06? i'd be looking for an earlier join date than that.
it's not all about post count, y'know?

I was talking about this the other day.........have you ever actually seen a horse asleep hmmm? I knew they didn't sleep!

sharing accounts.....big no no. Your boards account is part of your online identity, why would you share that, so easy to have your own account.

    I just did.

Oh hai there! Just so you know, we don't like people sharing accounts. If your gf wants to use boards.ie she should set up her own account.

    Two good reasons for this.

    1. It can be very confusing for readers to read for example, that you are thinking of getting a vasectomy in one post and then reading another post about the great pedicure you had the day before you bought that great new dress from Karen Millen and how lovely it feels against your skin!

    2. If one of you posts something that gets the account banned then the other may not be too pleased about it.

Listening to this, you'd swear setting up a boards account and logging into it was a task akin to marching a herd of elephants over a mountain  What maintaining is involved in this arduous task? Am I missing something?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,428 ✭✭✭busyliving

Never share my account...now if a mate asks me to post a question on boards for him i will do so, but only if its not something stupid.

But having two accounts running off one IP is kinda strange for it to be against the rules...because i share my internet with my housmate and if he had a boards account would it not show up that we are both breaking the rules:confused:

Anyway...My boards account is my identity online and nobody actually knows my username on here, my brothers and father have an account on here but they don't know who I am ha ha

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 765 ✭✭✭Ticktactoe

    Ah no.

Its easy to set up your own account and yer not joined at the hip.
The only reason i see for her posting under your username is so she can see who your interacting with and what your posting

I saw a joint facebook page recently with a name like "John Mary Smyth"

It must have been one of the couple who set it up like that without the other knowing or something. Can't imagine two people would be able to agree on doing something so silly/sad like that.

Mary is a common enough second name for men in Ireland.

It wasn't John or Mary, I changed the names in the interest of sadness fairness.

The exception is (I believe) that its allowed for the likes of the "Sex & Sexuality" forum where you can (with MOD permission) post Anon with a second I.D. - to ask a question or offer other advice/etc.

The more I read boards I wonder why some couples don't just go and do a reverse Siamese twin and get surgically conjoined at the forehead or sternum.

Well i mean, if my housemate decides to set up a boards account and starts using it...then wewill both be in breach of the rules won't we, because we share the same internet

In work, there's quitre a few other people who use boards. My Flatemate also uses boards. Sharing an IP is not a problem as 1 of the admins said already.

Many people in shared accommodation have their own accounts.
There is more than one person in my house with their own account.

Just so you know, we frown upon people sharing the same account. How are we to know which person is posting at any given time?
If one causes trouble, that's two people banned.
Get your partner to set up their own account.

    God damn fun police!!

I don't see any major problem if the other person doesn't fvck around. If they do, then tough ****e when the account gets banned.
No excuses, you should have know better.
For the odd post here and there it should be ok, after that they should have their own account.

2 stroke was originally conceived as a shared identity.
At the time, internet access was only available on one shared computer in our families business. Waiting for this old computer to log out/in was a nightmare so a shared user account was set up, then a shared boards account, originally there were 3 main users but over the last few years as many as 8 people have posted as 2 stroke. Its mostly myself or occasionally the otherhalf posting now but occasionally I'm surprised by one of the others logging in.
