Just wondering is this an upgrade worth doing at the moment or should I wait a while till everything supports it/works with it?

    Has anyone downloaded it yet?

I've not heard any reasons not to download and install it. Actually, if you have Windows Update set to automatic then it should already have been installed. :)

Service Pack 1 works well. Recommended.

Also you really should have updates set to automatic. Dont forget non microsoft programs too. I use http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/

What doesn't/didn't support it/work with it?

I've pushed it onto every Win7 machine we've got (not that many, admittedly - perhaps 20 odd including various dual-booting Macs) and I haven't seen a single problem with it so far. Certainly nothing like the way SP1 went for Vista. Heck, it even installed fine on my ageing and creaky desktop and only-marginally-less-creaky laptop at home without any hassle.

No reason not to install it unless you know of specific compatibility issues, TBH.

I tried to install it, it took ages, and then gave me a failed message (which was due to memory issues or something), then had to revert changes. But when I go to system information/summary/overview (whichever it is) - it says my current OS is Service Pack 1 .. weird.

Just asking a question whether it will cause any conflicts, I haven't installed it yet.

I just installed the new Windows 7 driver for my external sound card. I don't want to install it only to find out there is a driver somewhere that doesn't support the new service pack.

What are the benefits of it and what does it improve?

It's not a Service Pack like SP1 or SP2 on XP, or SP1 on Vista - as far as I've seen 7 SP1 is more a hotfix roll-up, with a few minor updates for processor instruction sets and things like that. So you're not looking at it being a watershed moment in your Win7 experience.

Equally, though, it's a stable service pack from the OS vendor, so by now my default stance is that you should install it unless you've got specific concerns about hardware drivers or legacy software support based on reports from the vendors concerned.

An update was released in last month which fixes SP1 installation issues on some machines. Haven't experienced any problems myself but it might help you. Run an update scan and it might appear in the list of available updates (but might not if SP1 is already installed).
