Switched on this morning wondering what the hell happened to the prologue, it's an interesting change I think with the team time trial tomorrow not expecting to create too big a gap between the fast and slow teams.

T Farrar good each way bet for green jersey.

Hushovd said he's not going for it and will be riding for Farrar in the sprints.
Got 22/1 on PP last night.

Judging by the activity levels here, it seems a lot of people watched the first stage, posted here and as soon as it was over went for a cycle, while I'm stuck at work.

you can discuss live in the stage specific thread. I don't mean to be a moaning Michael but my stern warning comes through experience. A lot of people who normally don't post in the cycling get caught up in the TdF, people who want to see Nico do well for example, and don't read the forum charter. People like myself work and can only watch the highlights this evening.

The prices for the TTT are on Paddy Power, Sky are a lot longer than I thought.

Certainly good e/w value, they'll surely beat the wrinklies of Radioshack? I expect Garmin, HTC and Sky to be the top 3, and it could be in any order.

    Garmin 7/4
    HTC 9/4
    Shack 3/1
    Sky 7/1
    Leopard 8/1
    Rabobank 40/1

Stuck 7 euro on sky. Had money in a betfair account just sitting there from previous boxing win. May as well put it to some use says I.

Went for a modest €5 flutter on HTC at 5/2. Perhaps I was influenced by having Cavendish and Martin on my fantasy tour team. I hate eggs so chucking them in to the one basket suits me fine. Also, Djokovic FTW!

@ macken04 - you finished that HongFu build yet? Was just emailed an 8% off coupon from them. Not sure how to redeem it though as some of the text is in Chinese

I've just moved a post to today's stage thread

Final reminder - the merest hint of information concerning a current day stage outside the stage specific thread must use spolier tags. Preferably any such information should be in the specific stage thread (which can be viewed spoiler-free)

I'll be putting in a new OP later this evening setting out all the usual rules specific to the Tour but in the meantime failure to observe the spoiler rules can expect to result in yellow or red cards or may ulimately lead to a ban from the forum for at least the duration of the Tour, depending on the severity of offence and extent of re-offending

    Thanks

    Nico's diary - http://www.independent.ie/sport/other-sports/nicolas-roche-the-only-good-thing-about-the-fall-was-because-the-teeth-of-the-chainring-are-sharp-at-least-the-cut-is-clean-2812230.html

Love this part, and what's not mentioned...
When I picked myself up, I was a bit worried about my gears and, having been hit from behind, didn't know if my rear wheel was buckled. John Gadret was at the very back of the bunch and when he saw me fall, actually turned around on the road and came back to see how I was.

Its a pity they gave the guys who crashed the same time as Nico but all in all, its a good start for him and he is well in contention.

Cant see the GC changing too much in the next few days, so will have to wait to see him move up

I'm no fan of Contador but credit where credit is due:
Contador makes a wish come true

Despite all the pressure on his shoulders before starting Sunday's team time trial, Alberto Contador (Saxo Bank-SunGard) took the time to make a wish come through for 10-year-old Nico Verdoodt.
The Belgian child was diagnosed with Aplastic anemia, a condition related to leukemia. It was Verdoodt's wish to do an interview with Contador. Nico's godfather at the make-a-wish foundation is Paul Herijgers, and the former cyclo-cross world champion had the connections to make it happen.
On Sunday Verdoodt waited for Contador with the microphone of Belgian TV-channel Sporza in his hands until Contador walked up to him during his warm-up session.
"Can you win the Tour de France?" Nico asked in perfect English.
Contador took his time to reply and said the crash on the first race day wouldn't help him. "I can only do my best," Contador said.
Members of the press watched jealously as Verdoodt beamed with joy upon talking to his hero.
Verdoodt's own history comes with an interesting twist. "When Nico was born, we donated stem cells from the umbilical cord to help people in need. Last year we thought about that when Nico was ill and after a long search, it turned out that his own cells still exist. We have been able to use those, and Nico's situation has improved a lot since then. We're winning this fight," said Nico's proud father.

Watching the TTT yesterday, got me wondering what's the story with the specialist jersies? I guess each team would have a few yellow/green jersies made up pre-tour with their sponsors logos. But looking at Thor Hushovd yesterday, would Garmin Cervelo have had the foresight to have a polka-dot skinsuit in XL made up prior to the tour or do they just get one manufactured in a rush after the first day's stage? And just on the skinsuits, Astana's gear looked very slippery.

I was wondering this as well. Do all the teams have a few yellow/green/polka/white jerseys ready just in case? Thats a lot of wasted kit at the end of the tour. Maybe teams like AG2R or FDJ dont bother?

The TTT and TT for that matter are considered separate disciplines! Therefore the polka dot, green and white jerseys can't be worn during both of them!

The only suits that can be worn are the Yellow, the National Time Trial Champion and the World Time Trial Champion!

i think the tour organisation supplies tnem (i think this as they have a nike logo on them rather than a team kits sponsor)

    they arent
The agreement, which will permit New Balance to be the sole and exclusive off-bike athletic shoe and advanced compression apparel partner, will allow the brand a range of highly visible merchandising and marketing opportunities. These include: New Balance corporate livery on official team kit and support vehicles; VIP hospitality at key events; Team Garmin –Cervelo image rights and access to Team Riders for promotional events and photoshoots.

Max speed was up in high 70's!

and his heart rate was closet to max for the majority

They are supplied by the race organizers usually -they have the requisite jerseys (presumably in each size) and they screen print the winning teams logos on them. I remember hearing some talk during the Tour of California that there were some problems with the leaders skin suits as it was a standard size, rather than made to measure a rider.

I would imagine that some teams would also be able to get kit made up in the right colours and delivered over night if required -it's what they do with bikes if they want to personalize them

In an individual time trial a rider is not allowed to draft any other rider.
What about a team time trial? Do the rules allow a rider who is no longer with his team - puncture, mechanical issue - to draft another team?
