Just looking at Carton House and Barberstown Castle and they seem to have a minimum of 80/100 on Saturdays. I always presumed Carton House catered for smaller weddings on Saturdays with their other rooms but maybe not anymore. Does anyone know if this is definite and does anyone have recommendations for other nice hotels in the area that cater for around 70 people? Thanks.

have you tried or considered rathsallagh or tulfarris in west wicklow, the ardenode, finnstown house, palmerstown house?

The Old House in Killashee House perhaps ?

A lot of hotels will have min attendances for weekend weddings by the way OP.

Yeah we have an appointment to see it on Sunday now, thanks. It looks like it might be what we're looking for.

I've done a few weddings in Kilashee in the Old house would that have been around your size. They might have another wedding in the main function room also but it wouldn't affect you at all.

It's a lovely venue for pictures also.

indeed, 70 people would be perfect for that room. there's no crossover of guests either

Thanks everyone, unfortunately we weren't impressed by Killashee at all, I think we have our hearts set on Carton House now after today and will probably have closer to 100 now, guestlists are hard work! Thanks for all your recommendations.

Can i just ask why you were not impressed by kilashee house? myself and OH were thinking of going along to see it when its next wedding fair thingy is on. pics look nice. not impressed by rental fee for original house tho, or that wedding couple have to pay for any bedrooms not used by guests!!!

When we were walking out to the original house there were leaks on the ceiling and in the carpet and the place just looks like it needs a lot of work done. They're lovely to deal with there and the gardens are beautiful but the original house unfortunately isn't as impressive as it is on photos. The floor is a disgrace and there's bits of wallpaper coming off the walls and chips on the wooden bar etc. If it was done up it would be nice but it's a listed building so maybe they can't do a whole lot to it. I was just really disappointed with it unfortunately, it looked lovely on the website but you should still go ahead and have a look if you think it might be what you're looking for, I don't want to put anyone off it, I'm just being honest on what we thought of the place.

+1 on not being impressed with Kilashee either. There was a hole in the ceiling of the gents toilets with a roll of toilet paper stuffed inside when we viewed the original house.

Attended a great civil ceremony at Finnstown House a few weeks ago, service was great and from wht I've heard the prices were quite reasonable.

We've booked our wedding with Leixlip Manor recently too, looking at a maximum of 90 guest though so may be too small for the OP's revised guest list.

    Beautiful venue though!

Leixlip Manor was the first place we looked at and I loved it. I think it is the venue we are going with. I'm just trying to see other places to make sure I dont love Lexlip Manor so much cos I was all caught up in the excitment!! It is the place I compare everywhere else to tho, and no where has lived up to it yet

    Leixlip manor looks very reasonable.
Is it really nice? are there nice grounds?
Would love Carton house but it works out way too expensive.

I attended a function at Killashee before (not a wedding) and I was not impressed at all with it.

Regarding Carton House - they cater for different size weddings. They have bigger weddings in the conferencing / business part of the hotel and then I think they have smaller weddings in the old house.

The grounds in Leixlip Manor are lovely, well worth a small walk around even if not planning a wedding.

The big wedding is not until next year but we are looking at the same area and a lot of the same places so going to keep an eye on this thread too!
