Can anyone suggest where someone might get a starter set of clubs+bag for someone just wanting a set to play the odd round i.e. wont be joining a club but occasionally wants to play with friends, driving range, pitch & putt kinda job! So probably not a golf shop sell, just a basic cheapish set to hack away with. Not seeing anything in local sports shops at the mo

Depend on where you are based, but if in Dublin area, could try Spawell driving range as I believe they sell second hand clubs and you can try them out in the driving range before purchasing (I think!)

www.golfstoreeurope.com Get one of their package sets for about 200euro or less.
Or try heatons. They will give you a cheap set of Dunlop clubs but not sure of the price.
And Elverys sports sell Spalding irons, I think its less than 150euro for the set.
And I am sure Argos sell something along this line too.

Where do you live OP? Surely must be a local golf club nearby with a pro shop? Plenty of value to be had. Check out adverts.ie for sellers in your area

you should definitely purchase second hand at adverts.ie or in golf club shop. shouldn't have to spend more than €50 for a decent set

I just got my first set myself. You could check out here -

    http://www.mcguirksgolf.com/complete-sets-!33-cat.html

Has the full listing of all the different club sets they have. I got this set - http://www.mcguirksgolf.com/wilson-ultra-cgi-graphite-complete-set/wilc0112pd.html - but it was reduced to 250 when I got it.

You can get a complete set of Spalding XR10 for 200, clubs and bag included. Shipping is free.
