Non-catholic funeral? Where will my body go?

There's a lot of threads about the catholic church at the moment.

I'm 100% against religion of any kind, I haven't been to mass since I was 16/17, and like most people it's only for funerals, weddings, etc.

But what will happen if I die today, my parents know my feelings on the church, so what other options are there in Ireland apart from the usual; die, wake in house, go to church, body stays in church over-night, funeral next day, to catholic graveyard, buried, religious type headstone, etc............

There aren't too many people aged 18-30 that are die hard religious fanatics, so at some point won't our way of thinking be in the majority?

So when our generation gets to 80/90 years of age, what kind of funerals will we be having?

Will there be new non-religious graveyards for us? What will happen to our bodies?

Burning will probably not be allowed because of environmental damage.

You can have a religious burial without the religion... just find yourself a mass grave somewhere

Get cremated in that non- denominational place at Newlands Cross then get your ashes scattered wherever you want. That's what I want done to me!

Non catholics get buried with the other hellbound cants ie: in a protestant cemetery.

Glasnevin cemetry is non-denominational. There is also an ecological burial ground somewhere around (can't remember where, sorry) where they will commemorate you with a tree rather than a headstone. Other option is to be cremated and sprinkled somewhere nice!

I don't actually have time to watch TV as I'm reading the 6 church related threads in AH.

Environmental and dumping legislation rules this option out sadly ;)

Get your body cut up and dispersed around the Grand Canal. It will provide days of fun for both the Gardaí, and the horrified public who find a floating arsecheek.

In fairness it's not totally a catholic thread, it's more predictions for future trends in funerals.

(Jesus I'm more depressing than I thought, my first thread in AH is about funeral trends)

Funerals are a product of culture and tradition to be fair. I'd say probably 90% of the funerals I've been to have been people who were never necessarily religious.

Dumping the whole tradition as a protest against the Catholic church is kind of silly IMO. The church's role in the whole thing is irrevelevant. It would be like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

And imagine the fun when they find the second arsecheek and it doesn't match. A winner all round, I think. It could replace bouncy castles as the new party favourite.

No where did I imply I wanted to dump the tradition of funerals, I just want a different funeral to your typical catholic affair.

There's a difference with being 'anti-religious' and 'doesn't go to mass that often'.

The thought of that kind of funeral for a family member that has very strong views against religion makes me a bit sick.

Most graveyard are owned by the county council and anyone can be buried in them once a grave is bought, it doesn't matter what religion or lack of religion they have.

OP why do you give a toss? Youll be dead, your not going to be visiting your body are you?

Get your friends to bury you under some floorboards with a medallion around your neck inscribed with:
"2011 World Champion - Hide and Go Seek"

But wouldn't then be important that you are buried somewhere they feel comfortable to be.

Taxidermy is the way to go. Your stuffed and mounted corpse can be delivered to a different friend each week, and they can talk to you about the bad times and the worst times you had together.

I guess we just feel we are more intelligent, more deserving and can walk around with the smug belief that we are better than you so therefore you should be respecting us :p:p

I have mine organised, my family have been told to contact this woman
    http://www.civilfuneralsireland.com/index.html
Then they can cremate me and stick my ashes in a wine bottle !
I've been to a couple of her ceremonies and they are perfect for someone who does not want the normal exit.
