I do NOT get the obsession with Abercrombie or stuff. I'm told their hoodies are good but really, it's a hoodie, how good can it be?

And Hollister stuff looks pretty chavvy.

At best the stuff from both those shops just looks like stuff from Penneys/River Island. Don't understand the hype at all, they obviously have some good marketing folk working for them.

so Jersey Shore is where "Come at me bro" came from...

Anyway, fúck Ambercrombie. I remember we use to get students during the boom bragging on boards about importing their gear and looking great in lectures.

Don't look amazing to me tbh

if you walk into A&F or even Hollister (owned by Abercrombie) you see tall, well built and tanned models/shop assistants

They're also thick as sh*t usually.

Well, I thought it was funny: Abercrombie & Fitch are so annoyed at the Jersey Shore characters wearing their clothes that they're offering to pay them not to wear A&F clothes. They don't care who knows, either - they put out a press release about their offer to "The Situation":
    Who wears who's (whose) clothes?

I must get out too much...

Sounds like a sixties/seventies spy thriller.
    'The Abercrombie Situation'.
    Probably stars Michael Caine.

Put it this way: the name started with "goats", but it had no pictures of goats on there (as far as I know). It's long gone now - shut down without a single objection.
    what site?

You dont want to see it. Picture this but for real.

This is the part I don't get. How is the experience different?

As a man, I don't judge a woman based on her brand of handbag or what it looks like. To be honest, I wouldn't really notice her handbag unless it had a swastika on it or something.
Though if my girlfriend spent €500 on a handbag I'd probably tell her how silly I thought that was.

At the end of the day, it's your choice and your money and I don't criticise you for buying what you want, but I have to admit I do find it hard to understand the idea of spending so much money on something that to me is so trivial.

I bought the bag as it was the size, shape and colour I wanted, it fits my lap top and folders for work and all the baby junk and toys for weekends. It goes with suits I wear to work as well as jeans and tshirts (must note here no A&F tshirts though lol)

And I wouldn't expect a guy to ever notice my bag or pay any attention to it unless he was gay.

Expensive bags is my thing, I have an old crappy TV, lap top and hi fi system, and I wouldn't spend a cent on upgrading those, they do the job and its fine by me. We all have our own weaknesses that we spend money on.

The only point I was trying to make here in relation to A&F is that companies spend years and millions of euros punds and dollars building up their brand name which in turn differentiates them from other similar products and allows them to charge premium price and maintaining this image is essential for brands survival.

So A&F are annoyed at Jersey shore lads wearing their clothes as it brings down the aspiratonal image of their clothes......then why did A&F have 2 jersey shore look-alikes standing outside their dundrum store on Saturday wearing nothing only board shorts and flip flops?

Those gays: they're mad for the bags and make-up and all that. I saw it on that Sex in the City.

Why would they ever countenance wearing expensive, bland leisurewear festooned with logos?

I think it is Hollister you are thinking about, though it is A&F brand but I am guessing since it is the budget version of their lines they brand and market it differently.

"... aspirational nature of our brand"? Well, to what are their customers aspiring? To wear more expensive clothes that look the same as clothes 1/4 the price from Penney's? "Oh, look, this label is proof that I spend more money on clothes than necessary! Amn't I better than the plebs?"

I've had two Abercrombie hoodies for 6 years. Both are as good as the day they were bought. Never shrank, never lost their colour.

Penney's clothes lasts 1 wash and starts to look ****e and falls out of shape.

I'd gladly pay €100 for one abercrombie hoodie that will last and last, than €15 for a piece of penney's ****e.

Ive 3 Footlocker Hoodies that i bought 5 years ago. They have travelled around the globe with me. Same shape size and colour as they day i bought them. Arms are tight and never loosened.

They cost a small fraction of your 100 Euro. 100 Euro for a hoodie is laughable. You lose.

Il take my 80 Euro and buy a plane ticket to somewhere fun.... and have change for beers.

And you could have saved a few thousand by buying a Citreon Saxo instead of a high performance M3.

The difference is? Don't lecture me about paying over the odds for a hoodie if you yourself drive a sports luxury.

And what about your phone - how much could you have saved by getting a Samsung Cobble? Plenty of change for beers there too i'd say?

The difference is that a luxury/sports car will cost significantly more to build than a budget car. Both their prices reflect their actual material value. However, designer clothes probably only cost marginally more to manufacture than cheap clothes, yet they cost many times more. Therefore their 'value' exists only in the heads of those obsessed by labels.

PS Feel free to trawl through all my previous post as well to see what you come up with :D

HA?!! A luxury sports car is the most basic LABEL of all. You pay more for the badge than you do for whats in the car, and thats a fact!

Why is a BMW 7 Series up to €300,000? Because its worth it?! BOLLOCKS. Because it's a BMW 7, thats why!

A mercede's A Class is similar to, and widely regarded as not as reliable as a hyundai getz - yet its up to four times the price? Because it costs more to make?

Ha! You have zero idea of what goes into an M3, shows you what you know if you compare it to a Citreon Saxo.

An M3 is a high performance Track orientated machine.

Your Hoodie you bought because it had A&F on it and someone told you they were cool..... (your cool) happy?

Designer clothes do cost more to manufacture and the quality is significantly superior. The ammount of times I bought cheap tops in penneys only to have them rip at the seem the first time I wore them or completely loose shape after first wash. Yet I have some disigner tops and tshirts for a few years now and they are as good as new.

You get what you pay for its as simple as that.

Your knowledge of what goes into these cars displays how ridiculously clueless you are on anything mechanical , Anything to do with technology, anything to do with production and manufacture and pretty much the cost of mineral resources too.

On that note i rest my case.

That's my exact point!! Can you not see that you just argued with me, and yet said the exact same thing as I did?!!

I have more idea than you ever will. I was making the point that it does the same thing - drives. A penney's hoody and a A&F hoody do the same thing - cover you. Are they the same?

Is a footlocker hoodie the same? No. Is a BMW M3 and Citreon saxo the same? Not even in the same league.

But you dont really, your actually paying around 60% over the odds for the branding. So lets be clear. I dont berate you for how you spend your cash. But quite simply dont grey the facts, facts are facts.

    Your paying for the branding.

Oh I forgot an A&F hoodie can get around the Nurburgring in 8:22. Sh** should have bought that hoodie instead of the car, what was i thinking

Well, you live in Ireland where you cannot go over 120kph. You live in Dublin in stop-start traffic almost all day. A citreon saxo will do the same for you, get you from a-b. Yet you own a BMW because it's a better quality car, it will last longer with care, it looks cooler and is all round just better. Yes it costs more , but its worth it.

My point is EXACTLY the same about an abercrombie top. Yet you think you are still arguing against me?!

Point is, when buying an M3 your not buying the badge (its toolish to assume that and clueless too)

When buying a piece of abject clothing with a brand on it, your buying it cos it was cool on your J1 Wahey!!!

Oh dear god. I have to leave this thread.

I clearly am not intelligent enough to continue to aruge with you listermint. Your powerful brain has convinced me I was wrong all along.

You are not comparing like with like.

Its like comparing a solid block of gold with lead.

Both will hold back a door but the mineral value of the gold makes it more expensive.

The manufacturing value and technology in an M3 make it expensive not the logo on the front.

Your hoodie is expensive because someone jammed a label on it. Your comparison is flawed. Im off too, because im banging my head on the table here.

I agree that you get what you pay for - some of the time.

A&F quality has gone well down the last few years. I was in the states last year, went to 3 or 4 stores and bought nothing. Hoodies were a lot different to ones I got years ago. Fabric just felt cheaper and wasn't as fitted as before.

Same with t-shirts, they felt like cheap versions of the real thing.

They've built they're brand and I reckon they're cutting corners to milk it right now.

PS - they would make a fortune selling torches, would come in handy in their stores. It's like shopping in a night club.
