Bargain TVs for Saorview Irish DTT Reception

The LG 42LD450 is excellent and in reality takes little more space than a 4:3 28" CRT
It only lacks certification and OTA upgrades. Has none of the compatibility issues of LG 42LD490 if you set Ireland + Data is Teletext or MHEG in Menu.
    http://www.techtir.ie/howto/hdmi-via-cat5-cable
If the one you get won't play USB video http://www.techtir.ie/howto/enable-42ld450-video-playback

Excellent upscale on RGB SCART and comb filter + upscale on composite in PAL

However the next tranche of sets will have more HDMI inputs, certification etc...

42" is really minimum size for regular living room for HD.

19" to 32" for 2nd sets, kitchens, study, bedroom etc.

    Thanks for that post STB!

The €150 TV from pixmania would look interesting for a lot of people (i.e. college students who aren't completely broke or a group of students looking for a house) but then delivery is another €18 so the equivalent Walker is then only €3 more in Power City.

exactly. it is ridiculous quoting prices without including the delivery cost.

stb it is not possible to get the tvs from pixmania for the prices you have quoted

STB posted a helpful post off his own back - of course there are delivery costs involved

Yes but in comparison to shop prices in Ireland it is still a bargain.

Please do not compare Walker to a premium brand name !

so why not post them - post the total cost.

and delivery costs are not always involved, so you are wrong.

amazon dont charge for delivery of tvs and are way better value than pixmania on almost everything. stb doesnt even seem to know this.

so maybe stick to discussing the technicalities and leave the bargains for the bargain alert forum

The fact that this Walker TV is saorview-tested and compatible very much counts for something and indeed perhaps I shouldn't compare a saorview-certified TV to a non saorview-certified TV. Brand names also don't hold much sway with me in that many manufacturers tend to buy the LCD or LED panels off a few existing Chinese, South Korean or Japanese manufacturers directly and are then assembled in the brand's own factories in China and using other parts that were also outsourced to chinese manufacturers.

Having seen the 22 inch walker for myself, I thought the build and display standard was reasonable in comparison to contemporary models. The remote control was also better than with some of the LCD TVs that I've used.

The LG priced above is indeed a bargain, but for those looking for the cheapest Saorview TV money can buy, the Walker is worth a mention. I've personally experienced Pixmania's poor returns service and there's a lot to be said for a car trip to Power City in comparison.

You wouldnt know it was a bargain unless someone told you it had the technical capabilities in the first instance.

Thanks STB, good resource and I've a feeling this thread will attract significant interest.

You've the LG 32LD450 is listed at €299 from Powercity.ie, alternative Amazon option €275 would be a good addition to the list as many outside the pale can't get to Powercity.

Do you believe all that though ?? :) Really ? be honest, would you buy an uncertified LG/Samsung or a certified OEM rebadge for the sake of €20 difference?

I mean they are made in Turkey for a start. They are not the same components as used in premium products from S Korea for example. Outside diffrent chipsets, most of the time the software is clunky in my experience. Certification does not guarantee product life, expecially as regards panels ! I have tried a lot of OEM rebadged gear and it can be frought with issues after a small time (so signs on it I have a ready supply of replacement boards and components.

I have also tested the Walkers, fine....

Me personally ? Buy cheap.... etc

the tvs linked to on pixmania are not bargains.

in the 32" category for example the LG-32LD450 which is a better tv than the one stb posted costs less from amazon than pixmania :

Difficult. People caught out on LG 42LD490 might argue the Walker/Certified is better.

Certainly as time goes on it makes sense to buy Certified (there are now Sony & Samsung). Buying non-certified is a research project or deciding which "expert" to believe.

And the experts have been known to make mistakes. I know I have.

    ???

I did post about the LG 32LD450 - and the link is to an Irish walk retailer - NOT PIXMANIA! Are you talking about the Samsumg ? which was €259 from pixmania - which is cheap inclusive of the €18 delivery - and not available at near that price on amazon or an Irish retailer!

Besides the convenience factor of walk in for the LG, Would you rather deal with a faceless amazon import website or an Irish shop for the sake of €20 difference ? I am sure you will spend more than €20 should you have a problem with it! The Tvs posted are significant savings and take all of this into account. Dont second guess someone who knows what they are talking about.

Last post to you as you are grating on my nerves and have contributed nothing.

No more feeding of Trolls. I read your recent posts, besides googling and giving out, do you actually contribute anything ? Do one.

Almost, just checked with them and there's a token charge of €5.00 on 32" TV's, kudos to them.

I enabled USB movie functionality on LG 32LD450 using a One for all URC, seemed a somewhat simpler process to method you advocated on Techtir.

I'd imagine different panel size has no bearing on efficacy.

Yes, these work fine with Saorview as it stands (I dunno if Saorview services will change much, like AAC audio and if the Sammy supports it?). The digital Aertel etc all work well.

I believe that model Hannspree ST321MNB is compatible with saorview including MHEG5 unlike the similarly named model Hannspree ST321MBB

Saorview website (http://www.saorview.ie/products-retailers/saorview-approved-product-listings/samsung/) lists LE32D450 as being approved, would it follow that LE32D450ZF (and any other variation of LE32D450

I picked up a Panasonic TX-L22X20L IN Currys Liffey Valley a few days ago for €200 (reduced from €300) It picks up all the channels & has full epg but no mheg5 on board according to manual.
I am very happy with it at that price.

Anyone have the new Panasonic TX-P46GT30B twin tuner tv - or 42 or 50 inch version.
I was thinking about buying one of these but Panasonics statement below on the MHEG5 service does not give one much confidence.

    http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/Support/Product+FAQs/3580816/index.html

Is it possible to receive the digital text transmitted with Saorview?
The 2011 models of Panasonic televisions are equipped with MHEG5 decoders enabling functionality with most digital teletext services transmitted with Saorview.

Panasonic 2011 models are not Saorview certified concerning the complete range of digital services offered. However they are equipped with MHEG5 decoders which will allow support of most of the Saorview digital services.

Please bear in mind that functionality and services are constantly being updated and that Panasonic cannot guarantee complete compatibility with future releases of the digital text services.

Unfortunately, Panasonic televisions made in or before 2010 do not have MHEG5 compatible tuners and this means that they will not receive the digital text transmitted with Saorview. Instead, they receive EBU (analogue teletext).

Well the BASIC spec for Saorview hasn't changed since it was published in February 2008, Panasonic.

MHEG5 compatible tuners !!! Lovely. Its fecking software Panasonic and NOTHING to do with the tuner module. EBU Teletext ???? What the hell has that to do with the WRONG middleware being loaded onto their so called "Irish models" in the "L" range.

An 8 year old could have written that better.

By the way the Samsung 32" CERTIFIED TVs are being sold for €299 right now.
