    Ay00000........im attending griffith in sept......

Ive been reading a bit here about the halls of residence and by and large ppl are saying theyre small and any little infraction is frowned upon which is fair enough, ppl have to study I can respect that......

What I'm asking is are their any local housing estates in and around the college where there are a lot of students living (either from griffith or other colleges) and one could rent a room with 2 or 3 others say in a semi detached house ?

If anyone knows the names of estates matching that description id be really greatful :)

    Hi,

I knew a few people staying the Griffith Halls and they've always seemed quite happy with the place. As far as the infraction thing goes, I dont think my friends have ever been in any trouble, and they're a wild bunch.
Afraid I cant really recommend any places around the area though.

Good luck finding somewhere to stay, Hope you enjoy the college.

    thanks for the response :)

Maybe I will end up in the halls, I mean ive been doing research and the other place nearby is the herberton place, and ppl are saying to stay away from there like your life depended on it, with the scumbag element and the burglaries etc etc.....

Then the other avenue I was pursuing was looking for a house to share with ppl my own age like my brothers and sisters did in cork and carlow....but on daft.ie theyre all to be shared with ''young professional couples'' which means nobody from school....making it harder to make friends :(

but yeah just looking for the names of some places or estates in nice areas........

is rathgar far from campus ? would it be worth looking there or is it too far......

Rathgar is about 3km from the college. So its not that far, I'm sure you could get a bus or Luas easily enough from there.

No, you need a Trinity student number to apply.

As the person above said, you've gotta be a Trinity Student.

Maybe try around Kilmanham, its 5 mins away from the College on a bus. A few friends of mine have been living in Apartments there and they're quite nice.

Firstly OI I fecking live round 'ere and its not full of Scumbags. Okay actually it is but they are fairly nice Scumbags as far as they go!

Griffith is on the SCR - Dolphins barn etc AVOID but there are some nice places around Dublin 8. The trick is to get as close to the Liffey as possible. If you don't come across as a complete pot head, drunk student you will have no problem getting somewhere to rent! Land lords can't give the places away at the moment. Dont pay more than €750 / 800 for a two bed place; one beds can be had for €600. I personally live in Viking Harbour and the place is well maintained. That said you have a loud party beyond midnight and you'll have the local supervisor knocking on your door.

Basically stick more towards town and close to the Liffey and you'll be fine. Kilmainham has it's dodgy bits but it has some REALLY nice area too. To be fair the whole of Dublin is like that!

Good luck and look forward to bumping into you on Campus!

PS Griffith actually farm their halls out to students inc Trinity Students - so don't think they're that bad. Trinity halls are like gold dust even if you're a stident AT TCD! Also if you want to "infract" bugger off down to coppers and see if you can get thrown out!

I've got a friend in Kilmanham looking for flatmate. I could pass your details on to her if you like? Its a really nice flat (I've slept on the couch enough times to know.) and pretty close to the college.

lol im not from dublin so I was just basing it off what I had read on boards.ie....this very forum actually.

I got a place in the coombe the other day.....cork street, its an apartment block of working professionals so I was happy because like I said noise while Im trying to work was a huge turnoff, which is invariably what I would have faced in the ghr....

The landlord said the top of cork street was ''tough country'' and full of scumbags, I didnt exactly disagree after driving through it.....lowlife junkies etc at the bus stops...****ty houses etc.....urban decay...

But where im staying looks like a fortress, the gate to get into the building is like 15 inches thick lol....

I was happy enough, expensive though, 795 per month :\

but to me its a small price to pay to live in comfort

thanks to everyone for their responses! :)

I actually lived right smack bang in the middle of Dolphin's Barn for four years when I was in Trinity and loved it. It's not a s bad as people think...and it's cheap!

I'm not a Griffith student, but stayed there myself this year. I would recommend the place if you are okay about the fact that you will never be able to bring a friend back who is not a resident...and I know people may say, "but sure that's the rules", which is all fine and well, however the fact that you are not allowed non-residents in your apartment after 10.30pm is really head wrecking!!!!
Even though most people chance it and never get caught, if you are caught it can be very serious...like as in my housemate was evicted!

In general the place is pretty dead...like no proper college feel to it...

But apart from that it's close to town so taxi's aren't too expensive, nice area and sure you will be right on your college doorstep!!

I stayed in Griffith Halls last year and, from experience, I wouldn't advise anyone to stay there. Guests are not allowed in the apartments after 10:30, as someone already mentioned and parties are not allowed. We had guests over one night, who lived in the apartment next door, there was 6 of us in the apartment, 3 of whom lived there, and they tried to fine us for having a party.

Also it gets very noisy at night time, not even just with parties but with traffic and ambulances constantly going by.

We also had lots of problems with our apartment, with the boiler and things like that, that took maintenance 3 weeks to come and look at and yet they send people in to check fire alarms at strange times without any notice.

Also, sharing a room with someone can get annoying, especially if they are someone you don't know previously.

Only good things I can say about it is the short distance into the city centre and the apartments, complex and your own room are very secure.
