Baggot Street to Blanchardstown

I will be commuting from Baggot street where i work to ITB in Blanchardstown twice a week. I have to be there at 5pm. My options are park in Sandyford and get the Luas into town then drive out the M50 to Blanch or park in the Burlington and drive direct from there. What would be the best routes around 4ish? Seems like 2 options, drive up along the canal and onto the naas road or through town and out the Navan road. The bus isnt really an option for me.

Your options are mad. If you must drive go through the Phoenix Park.

How long would it take to drive to Blanch going through the park at 4pm?

I do have to drive as getting public transport will take about an hour and a half coming home when i can drive it in 20 mins.

I'm sorry OP, what? Just drive straight down through the Phoenix Park like above said. If you leave early enough you'll be going before the evening rush.

I don't know why you're even mentioning Sandyford or the Naas Road?

I was mentioning sandyford as i live out that direction and it would be handy to leave my car there and drive out the m50 but it does mean coming all the way out of town to get the car. As i have rarely driven though town at that time of day i have no idea what the traffic would be like and according to AA's route planner from the burlington the quickest way is up the canal and on to the m50. I have found that routeplanner to be way off before though.

Realise that by not using public transport that you have to pay for parking (and a toll if you come back via the M50)

Dublin Bus route 38/a/b will take you from Baggot Street to Blackcourt Avenue / Road, Blanchardstown. Routes 37 and 39/a will get you from Baggot Street to Blanchardstown.

I know using the bus would save me money but I dont finish until 10 pm and with the car i can be home before 10.30 where as the bus could be half 11 or later. That hour will make the world of difference after a 14 hour day.

I think today i will drive from sandyford, traffic will be mad around that area of town tonight with the reception for Dublin in merrion square. I think Dublin are also staying in the Burlington.

    Thanks for all your help!

If you live in Sandyford the the M50 is the only option for me. Get off at palmerstown and go through Lucan or Chapelizod if you dont want to pay the toll.

From Baggot street i would go on to pearse street and either down the quays and through the park or past the customs house and up to mountjoy square and straight across dorset street then right onto the North circular road and then straight on up to Blanch.
Leave at 4 and it should give you plenty of time.

Get the train from Pearse station to castleknock then its 5 minutes walk to blanch village it takes 25 minutes and is serviced by the maynooth/longford trains.

I commute to baggot street from blanch every day and they days i do have to drive in are a hassle thats not worth it.

38a 39 38 all get you to the village in good time aswell, to be honest driving is the last option i would look at.

The OP is going to IT Blanchardstown - not the Village.

I'd have to agree with Hilly Bill - public transport really is not an option here given the OP works in town and lives in Sandyford.

Main road in the Phoenix Park is going to be closed for 3 months.

You were a bit nuts signing up for a course in ITB and living/working on the other side of the city.

I have parking in D.4 and live in D.15 and it takes me about 40 to an hour leaving at 4pm. Usually its 35 to 45 for me. You need to leave at 4 on the button though. If I was you I'd find somewhere near work, that does all day parking, a quick google gave me http://www.q-park.ie with a day rate of €10 for the burlo. So thats not too bad if its only twice a week. There may be other options. You'd have to check that out. The problem with your route is you are hitting some major traffic hot spots. So the route below may not always be the fastest, but I reckon it would be the most consistent. But I don't know anything about going back to sandyford and going the M50. That could possible be better. It also depends how progressive you are in traffic.

My route is, baggot st, penbroke street, lesson st, st green, then down aungier st, peters row, ship street, bride road, patrick st, high st, then down the quays and into the park. However the park will be closed soon. So for you, I'd go down to blackhall pl, then out manor street, prussia st, manor st, then old cabra rd, then rathtoath rd, through cabra, then the cappagh road the the ballycoolin rd. which brings you out the back of ITB.

This might seem long winded, but it misses all the major bottlenecks IF you leave at 4. I'd say you'd do that in about 50 mins. Personally I don't have the patience to sit on the canal. Then around the park, navan road you risk getting caught in long tailbacks in the winter. Though traffic these days is a lot lighter so perhaps the main roads will be less busy this winter and become a viable option for you.
