Where do you get inspiration for your look

Where do you get inspiration for your look- from other people you see walking around, magazines/tv or do you just go with what seems to be most popular in the shops? Do you think the looks put together in the shop windows and on models transfer well to your own body?

Personally I do my own thing but I see other people on the street, celebs in magazines and I might try out what they're wearing.
I admire what Drew Barrymore wears (most of the time). I suppose she would be a bit of a style icon but I do tend to make up my own looks, especially as I've gotten older.

I get my inspiration from lots of sources... Magazines, tv/film, websites/blogs, what I see other people wearing and my own imagination.

I don't go by what's popular really because I know not every trend suits me and some trends are just not "me" anyway. I don't really have a particular look I stick to either. Yesterday I wore a pencil skirt, blouse and heels to work, today I'm in skinny jeans, Converse and a "dressy" T-shirt. I would do most of my shopping in the high street with a few key pieces from high end dept stores and just mix them together depending on the outfit/occasion.

Some looks I see on mannequins I think would translate okay to my own body but I wouldn't necessarily buy it if I didn't think it was "me" or if it was overly trendy. I like to buy pieces that will last a few seasons without looking too dated.

Can't beat Cary Grsnt or Jimmy Stewart for the classic look

I get my inspiration from myself mostly, I know my shape and colouring well so I go with what suits that. A lot of my jewellery and some pieces of clothing (coat, scarves, etc) belong to my grandmother and her style inspires me a lot, red lips and red nails were her trademark. There are some celebrities I love, Victoria Beckham, Dita Von Teese, people who wear classic shapes and have similar colouring to me, but ultimately I just wear what I like!

Thurston, you could be me!:P I'm exactly the same, I don't dress in something just because it's a trend or a fad or because everybody is wearing it. My inspiration is influenced by magazines/celebrities/blogs but I always try and put my own spin on it. Likewise I don't fall into any particular clothing category, I can look completely different day to day!

Tv is probably the main source that's why people charge a lot for product placement on tv.

Haha it really isn't anything spectacular I just meant that one day I might wear jeans, a plain top and converse and the next I'll be in a dress etc.

I love fashion magazines. I don't particularly follow trends. I just like to dress in things that I like and feel good in.

    I LOVE BRIGHT COLOURS! :)

I find it hard to stick to a style really.
I'm not very confident about what goes with what and what suits me so I tend to stick to the very safe jeans and t-shirt with converse or the like quite often.
Sometimes I try new stuff but I find I get quite self concious.
Though if I was to pick who influences my clothing choices it'd probably be my friends, seeing stuff that dosen't look too young or too old worn well is a bit of a help.

  • Usually just buy what I like, but if I see someone who is really well dressed in the style I like on the Tube or in the street, I do look at what they're wearing in detail (I try to do it discreetly :o) and I might get a few things based on that. I browse Lookbook the odd time as well, just for inspiration on how to wear things and which colours to put together. I love the Bohemian Junk blog and that girl's style (although she never updates it anymore) and I've bought a few nail colours and hats after seeing them on her. I normally shop in charity shops, so I'm very limited in what I can buy, but I try to stick to one style so that I can mix and match most of my clothes. Usually in winter, I wear variations of lace-up worker boots or fur lined ankle boots, black tights, a girly dress, chunky cardigan and patterned scarf.

Everywhere! My friends, people on the street, blogs I follow on Tumblr, magazines, designer collections, my mam, my aunts, all with a dash of "hell, if it looks good"!

I love clothes and fashion so much. I still play dress up with my friends! We'll just raid each others wardrobes, pull together outfits that the other would never have thought of. The joy of personal style, it's yours. Fashion can be bought but style is both learned and innate.

I wish I had more confidance when it came to style. As a size 12-14 thats curvy, I find it very hard to dress myself.

I'd love to be more influenced by people but I'm gonna start trying harder!

I'm finding it impossible to get clothes I like. Haven't really bought much all year, the stuff on offer here in Ireland is just so overpriced and tacky.

Have you tried charity shops? I usually hate the stuff in the shops, but find quite a lot second hand and ridiculously cheap. I got a cashmere sweater for under a tenner the other day.

Bright colours. I hate black, white, brown, camel/beige/taupe, greys, murky greens/blues and pale insiped shades like nude/salmon pink. They also have a habit of making me look dead so it's just as well.

Almost everything I own, even bags, are bright colours. Right now I have an orange bag and a purple coat :D Going out of the house in them makes me happy. I do like patterns but they're the minority in my wardrobe, most things are block strong colours. I don't consciously take inspiration from people or trends. I will avoid completely trends I despise like Aztec or something but if I like something that's part of a trend, I'll buy it.

ok so i am ion love with kim kardashians style not the early stuff but in the last 2 years i think her everyday dress style is amazing. i love her figure, granted she is thin but she has some behind on her. i try to wear the same type look as i feel i am onto her shape obviosuly not as thin, id be a size 14, but i am taller so balances out a lil. i just think that for anyone curvy she is a great style icon.
