    Everyone keeps talking about how amazing the 3ds holiday line-up is this year and yet all I have real interest in is Mario 3D Land and Mario kart so I was just wondering what you guys plan on getting this holiday season or soon after?

    What else is there other than Mariokart and MarioLand?
    (yes, I do live under a rock).
    'Land and Kart were my list, I look forward to expanding it...

    Only Mario Kart 7 (what a crappy name btw) & Super Mario 3D Land are out before the new year. There is a new Prof Layton out on the good ol DS too. Resident Evil will be out in late January though

    Cave Story, Pokemon Rumble Blast, Sonic Generations, Ace Combat, Dr. Lautrec, James Noir, Need for speed the runs, Rabbids 3d, rayman origins, shin megami tensei devil survivor, shinobi, spyro, tales of the abyss, not to mention kart7, 3dland and a couple of titles which won't be anything special but still be million-sellers.

    Then January we get all sorts.

    I would say Christmas is the perfect time to get one. Like others said January and February will see loads of games released including: kid Icarus, luigis mansion 2 , paper mario , resident evil, metal gear solid, animal crossing.

    Also given that you havent played either star fox or OOT there are two perfect games for you to pick up on Christmas day. I'm actually so jealous that you get to experience OOT for the first time on a Christmas day it's epic !

    kid Icarus is out Q1 2012 (up until march), luigis mansion 2 only given "2012" as a date , paper mario only given "2012" as a date , resident evil, metal gear solid, animal crossing only given "2012" as date.

    Resident Evil will be super-duper-solid though.
    If you want to play a mediocre ten year old game get metal gear I guess.

    Resi Revelations is out January 27th,I hope the garbage 2nd analogue stick isn't mandatory for any of these games. Not bothered by Snake Eater 3D with the HD Remake out around the same time,can't wait for Luigi's Mansion 2 & Paper Mario. Animal Crossing while I enjoy it the game is the nearlx the exactly same thing every time its released.

    The "Slider Pad Pro" or whatever the hell they're calling it is going to stay an optional replacement for gyro control until a re-design.

    Same, it was one of the main reasons I bought a 3DS.

    Eh just Tales of the Abyss for me. I played it on my ps2 but I want to do a second play through without horrendous loading times.

    I have had a 3DS since launch but I've not really picked it up and played it very much.

    However, I'll be picking up 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 for definite. Getting Ocarina Of Time for Christmas from my sister I'd imagine.

    Can't wait for Luigi's Mansion 2. First one was one of my favourite's on the Gamecube.

    I'm gonna get the 3DS for Christmas. Was waiting for a good colour to come out, red will have to do! Sad I don't get all the free games the first buyers did still.

    Moving to Canada next year though and very sad the games are region locked, will have to get them sent over!

    This prob sounds like a silly question, but does the old DS games work in the new 3DS?

    Ive got the old and just wanna be sure.... thanks :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,623 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

    Yes they do (it'd be suicide for Nintendo if they didn't).

    I would like to get "Driver" and "Resident Evil" for my Nintendo 3DS - i love those 2 games.

    I think it's unfair that, if you want to play SuperMario Land, you have to buy the Nintendo 3DS.
    I have a Nintendo DS and have played all the Super Mario games, but apparently the new game is only playable on the 3DS.
    I understand it's in 3D so to see the graphics, you'd need the new console but surely they could have made it so that you could play the game on the Nintendo DS and it'd just be in 2D?
    Really unfair as it means one has to purchase another console.

    Yes of course they could to make it in that way, but we all know that it was marketing trick, i mean now if you wann play those all new fantastic games you have to buy new 3DS

    The 3DS is more powerful than the DS.

    Also, you have not played all the mario games just by owning a DS.
    you've missed an awful lot if all you've owned is a DS.

    The new Mario game actually uses the 3D in a clever way (it's not just tacked on for the sake of it).

    :confused: ...this has been happening since the birth of the home console

    Not really, unfortunately... the 3DS is a significantly more powerful piece of hardware than the original DS iterations. The graphics and level geometry of Mario 3D Land would probably be far too ambitious for the DS' modest polygon rendering abilities to handle without some significant dilution, scaling back and general loss of quality. Nintendo usually design their games to the strengths of a particular system, and they probably didn't want to limit their possibilities by ensuring that everything would also be possible in a simplified DS port. From the looks of reviews and things, I'd say you'll be very glad they made such a decision if and when you decide to get a 3DS. ;)

    And this one isn't on the DS...
    It's on the successor, 3DS.

    3DS = Not DS.
    3DS = next generation.
    3DS = more powerful.
    3DS > DS, in the same way a PS3 > PS2 and so on...

    The DS did have a pretty nice run, released March 2005 in Ireland so 6 years!
