HTC Desire - space issue

    Hi there,

I have a HTC desire and recently keep getting 'You're running out of space' messages.

I've installed all unnecessary apps, and moved as many of them to the SD card as possible, but loads of them have the 'move to SD card' option greyed out. Even when I force stop, I still can't move them.

Has anyone any ideas for me? Cheers

this has always been the issue, you need uninstall the apps that you don't use, clear your cache, use app2sd where can be found in the market.

Folks, just bumping this up again .... i have uninstalled all the apps i can and there only seems to be about 40-45 mb of apps installed on the phone (rest on SD) and i have cleared all the cache on those as well but its still saying that i have about 150 mb used.

Android 2.2 HTC Desire ... is there anyway of freeing up more space, deleting log files or other cache of data or anything? It really is getting annoying now.

What internet browser are you using? If it's Dolphin then maybe i can help.

The only way you'll ever be fully free of that pain in the hole of a problem is to root and install a rom with app2sd+. It's actually a very straightforward procedure and it breaths a whole new lease of life into the phone. I've moved onto the s2 now, but the desire is still a brilliant phone, and it was just a shocking oversight by htc to equip it with such limited internal storage.

    ^^^^^^^

What he said. Root is your only option and will be like having a new phone. Loads of tutorials over on xda developers.

If you have apps that you have moved to the SD card but don't use delete them too. A lot of apps that claim to have moved to SD actually still use a lot of the phone memory, some don't seem to free up any memory at all when you hit the move to SD button.

I freed up well over 50 mb of space on my Desire's internal memory by deleting apps that claimed they were installed on the SD card!

    Ok this sounds good.

At the moment all i have installed on the phone is ...

    12.86 - Adobe Flash Player
    10.93 - Maps
    6.32 - Market
    4.8 - Voice Recorder
    4.74 - YouTube
    4.39 - Lookout
    3.32 - Gmail
    1.19 - HTC Sync
    1.04 - System Panel Lite
    1008kb - 3G Watchdog
    364 - The Fuel App

Which totals at 51.09 mb .... and i think all of those are just basic, nothing extra

I'm gonna remove some other apps now and see what happens

I have Desire and its running official 2.3 Gingerbread
    See here http://htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads
    Instructions here http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/how-to-update-your-htc-desire-to-android-2-3-986502

It free's up a bit more space and seems to run much better and a little quicker than 2.2
It also removes some unwanted crap on the phone such as embedded Facebook and a few other things I cant quite remember. One thing i did was uninstall Flash Player updates as its a real space hog - the stock version that comes with the phone works fine and I dont see the need to update it and for it to eat up 12MB of storage
I also have 1Tap Cleaner installed and this is good for cleaning out cache every now and then.
I have 30+ apps installed and still have a bit of space left for more
