I'm really not into conventional tv viewing anymore, i prefer to view things "on-demand", as such my Xmas day will be given over to a few movies i've wanted to see/catch up on:

    Captain America
    Super 8
    Tanner Hall
    Monte Carlo
Rise Of The Planet of The Apes and that last Potter movie...whatever it's called :)

Slap on the wireless headphones, no screaming kids or nagging GF...stuffed porksteak, pops and peas with a nice triffle...luvly jubly ;)

This is actually a good question, haven't looked at the schedules yet, but

    Downton Abbey Christmas special
    Bad Santa

    are 2 definitely.

    The Queens Speech at 3.00pm

    Always watched in our house.
Produced for the first time by Sky.
This year's Queen's Christmas message could have an added dimension after production duties were handed to Sky News for the first time. A third dimension, to be specific, with a 3D Commonwealth address by her majesty the ultimate marketing coup for the satellite broadcaster.
As the host broadcaster, Sky will make the programme available to all TV and radio broadcasters, including the BBC and ITV. It is not a money making venture though - the broadcast is distributed for free, and production costs are estimated at between £50,000 and £100,000.

Get up late, have dinner to cure my hangover then some sport from America. Have a ****ton of documentaries to get through. Will likely end up watching some of the soaps, **** all else on though.

Cowboys & Aliens is due out next Friday, I will give it a spin on Christmas Day.

It won't be planned, but "Only Fools and Horses" will probably end up being on the tv some time in the day.

Can't forget the 6.01 news a day before on Chritstmas eve :D

Deffo agree with the Queens speech, then the Angelus. I see in "The Times" today that Lizzy has been spotted flying into the conemara gaelteacht over the past few weeks, so there'll be a lovely little message for her subjects here too. Can't wait, then top it off with the new Angelus with bagpipes. Bring it on baby.

American basketball. First day of the season and four games back-to-back starting after the dinner. Mmm.

Whatever you do don't ruin christmas by watching captain america, super 8 is a great film and rise of the planet of the apes definitely in the top 10 films of this year

Watching Battle Royale on Christmas day has become a bit of a ritual for me over the last few years so that will definitely get an airing again.

Usually just channel surf and settle for whatever crap is on during the day. I think there's a Pawn Stars marathon on Bio, might give that a go seeing as the whole family's obsessed with it :pac:

on Stephenziz day I'll catch up on my American imports, I've been saving them up for the past few weeks. So Community, HIMYM, Raising Hope and maybe Desperate Housewives for the craic.

Going spending the Christmas with the grandparents. Grandad is a fan of comedians so we will probably end up watching Billy Connolly since thats his Christmas present from me, Mrs Browns Boys and episodes of the Royle Family or something. My Granny likes horrors so I'll have a look in HMV for anything she might like.

Die Hard (always gets watched), spotted The Towering Inferno on a TV guide somewhere. My mother will no doubt watch Babe, so that'll do.

I used to always watch Plains, Trains & Automobiles on Christmas eve.

As for drinking, never have and possibly never will on Christmas eve. Christmas morning means a lot, I would hate to have it ruined by a hangover. My Grandfather (RIP) with whom I was very close was an extremely modern man in every way, we'd both be up before 7am giddy as feck opening presents. Please god someday I'll be able to share the excitement of Christmas morning with my own little one, because he did a great job with us.

Had a look at TV Listings for Christmas Day last night.. and there didn't appear to be many new films / premieres.. or anything that stood out.

Doctor Who defo.. then some poker methinks.. might even get in some card games too. Ooh-err!

Is everyone taking the piss about watching the Queens speech?

I'll watch Doctor Who anyway and Downton Abbey if I can get the first two series watched between now and then. Maybe Scrooged and/ or Muppet Christmas Carol.

On Christmas Eve, I'll watch the bluray copy of It's a Wonderful Life that I didn't have a chance to watch last year. Been looking forward to it for a whole year!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,259 ✭✭✭downwithpeace

I have series four of BSG on blu-ray yet to be watched so more then likely that in a dark room with a good supply of beer and snacks sometime after dinner when the place settles down.

Fixed your post, I've being saving "Transformers 3" blu ray spec for xmas day, I'm curious to see difference on new 42inch LED. Nearly finished rewatching all of ST Voyager so will finish that and start some other old one, Early Edition maybe.

Downton Abbey Christmas Special for me. As long as I see that I'm not too pushed about anything else in particular.

Is Scrooged on tv anytime over the christmas?

I'll be watching to see if I can figure out how the hell it costs between £50,000 and £100,000 to film it.

Can't forget the 6.01 news a day before on Chritstmas eve :D

Is this Anne Doyle's last bulletin or something? Or will it be the 9 o clock news?

I don't think so. AFAIK it was on C4 on Sat. but I just went through the RTE Guide and I didn't see any mention of it.

That must make it the most shown movie this xmas, it was on C4 last saturday and I think Sky the previous week.

    Some of the highlights:

Mrs. Brown's Boys Xmas Special is on at 10pm on RTE1.

The Bourne Identity is on at 9pm on TV3, TV3 never seem to bother with Xmas. They've not even got a good premiere.

Absolutely Fabulous on BBC1 at 10pm on BBC1.

Downton Abbey on UTV at 9.

That's about it, oh and of course hours of soaps. And Independence Day on RTE2 at 9 - what a weird decision!
