Bus drivers leaving engines running...

    Hi all,

I'm having a huge problem at the moment with Bus Eireann vehicles parking across from my accommodation block and leaving their engines running both very early in the morning (before 7 a.m.) and very late in the evening (11 - 12ish).

I have sent emails off to them and have been given the usual guff that they are very sorry and, seeing as it is classed as a residential area, will be telling their drivers that they should be turning their engines off whilst being parked up.

This has not happened and all emails since mid December have not been answered. I am not able to sleep properly and am now at my wits end at how to proceed.

Is this a matter for the Gardai or is there some ombudsman that should be contacted? I have now started to catalogue times that the buses have their engines running. I have also gathered a few reg nos when I could drag myself out of bed. I have also started taking videos of the offending buses.

If anyone could suggest where I go from here I would be extremely grateful.

Just be thank full it's only a bus, you could live beside a railway and 071s idling outside all night :pac:

For those who don't know what an 071 is, it's the pre-fix for dialing the Sligo area.

All else fails you could tackle the problem yourself. There's an emergency kill switch at the rear of every the bus that will stop the engine immediately, failing that jamming a spud into the exhaust pipe will also effectively stop the motor. :p

Nah, proven to be an urban myth. Where did that start anyway, was it Police Academy or Beverly Hills Cop?

We used to stall old trials bikes by covering the exhaust. Tried on a few multi cylinder machines and no luck. It'll slightly reduce performance blocking the exhaust.

The kill switch will work, there should be one at the front also, but you'd not want to get caught doing it.
