We are getting married early october and are trying to organise the honeymoon, wedding planning was a doddle compared to this. So many choices we cannot decide. We are both fairly active and would like to chill for a few days after wedding but would like to be reasonably active for the rest of it. We both enjoy the warm weather, good food and a few drinks at night. Thailand looks promising but unsure of weather at that time. We are open to any suggestions, carribean anyone? Feel that the states can be done anytime but maybe?? Please help, we're struggling!!:o

We went to Mexico first for about 10 days which was mainly beach but some sightseeing also. we didn't want the resort type holiday so we went to Playa Del Carmen instead of Cancun and stayed in huts on the beach!!

We then went onto Miami for another 6 days which covered the shopping angle for herself!! Miami was great because there is so much to see and do in south Florida and a trip out to the Keys is a must. We went in September so were taking a risk during hurricane season but we didn't get any but I think the season is over by October.

Same boat, from what I read it's hurricane season in the caribbean and likely to be wet in SE Asia. Indian Ocean resorts (maldives, sri lanka, mauritius etc) are all a good bet weather wise.

We're going to California for a drive around, it will be a bit cooler so we're going to take a third week in Mexico (los Cabos, pacific coast sheltered from hurricanes) to get a bit of sun. We would have gone to Brazil but were there last easter, there are plenty of beach resorts and less commercial beach areas you could explore in Brazil with good weather in October.

Otherwise, Australia will have good weather and Hawaii is also nice that time of year, however i understand it's expensive. You also have Dubia, Oman etc.

That's what i took from searching around various forums over the last few months !

Thanks all, Mexico could be an option, would there be plenty to do after a few days of stretching out on the beach? A few days in florida before or afterwards sounds good if its not too expensive to take in. Weather conditions might rule out Thailand  keep ideas coming, all help appreciated!

We are getting married October 2012 too and are also like yourselves active and don't fancy lying on a beach for three weeks solid. We are thinking South Africa, including safari as the summer begins in SA in October, and there looks like there is loads to do there, and then a week of relaxation in Maldives as it will be coming into their dry season end of Oct/start Nov.

South Africa is a great choice. There's a top noth safari call Shamwari that is Malaria-Free, but very pricey. Don't plan on doing very much in the Maldives, although it picture postcard beautiful...there's absolutely nothing to do but lie on the beach!

Rio de Janeiro might be worth looking into as you say you like warm weather and good food. Not too touristy in October either.

Food and drink is decent, Brazilians generally eat heavy meals such as bread, beans, rice, and a lot of meat, with so many different exotic cocktails, plenty of options.

Plenty of things to see and do from the more famous Sugar Loaf, Christ the Redeemer (which I believe you can walk to from the street if your feeling very active as it's obviously all up-hill), Maracana soccer stadium (though that's being renovated for the World Cup in 2014 but you can still do a museum tour and walk to pitch-side), or chill on the Copacabana all day drinking coconut water, the beach was quite deserted when we went in October. But a lot of non-touristy things to see and do also.

Just a suggestion, me and my partner loved this city but some people are put off by the high crime rate though.

Good luck where ever you choose :)

    Hi there
We're getting married in October also.
We are going to India and Nepal for 4 weeks.
Would you consider India? We have a 2 week itinerary which includes something like
3 days walking, 3 days on camels, 1 day boat journey, 3-4 days in a jeep and a few days cycling. The tour operator sorts your luggage etc. CANT WAIT!
