Collision with a rental car

Just looking for some advice on how to proceed here - had a collision with a rental car. Minor stuff for the car I collided with, just some scrapes, paintwork damage and a most a small dent (euro coin sized) on one of the wheel arches. My car suffered very light damage, some paint scraping, no dents.

We both stopped, exchanged details, etc. no drama.

It looks likely that I will be judged to be liable. Given the relatively small amount of damage, I'd like to procede without a claim. I would be highly surprised if the damage to the other car is worth losing my NCB and I've already been told that the repair work to my car won't clear my insurance excess.

Has anyone had dealings with a rental company in this way and do they have any advice to keep costs to a minimum? My inusrance company have said that they can deal with the rental company and I can pay them the settlement amount to avoid making a claim. Good idea or bad idea? Or should I just try to deal with the rental company myself?

You can try to deal with the rental company, but most likely repaying your insurance company will give you the best outcome.
