I'm hoping to get a 2nd TV for the house and would like the cheapest model out there with USB recording built-in.

    Any suggestions?

The likes of NordMende or Walker would fit your bill so if you want the cheapest and also USB recording.

However it's a "recording feature" not as reliable as a true PVR.

We all know your views on PVRs at this stage watty, but what do you mean by "not as reliable"?

I'll take my chances with it, as its not my main TV.

As for 'not as reliable' as a PVR, I have had many countless FAILED RECORDINGS on a Sky+ box. They are not overly reliable either.

I bought a 32" walker in December. The recording works fine but text takes an age to load. The text and numbers on the remote control have also worn away in no time at all.

I also have a 26" walker that is over a year older and is a lot better but doesn't have the recording option.

Walker must have went with some really cheap components in the newer models.

Have the 32" Walker myself. Great for Divx playback, but find the recording feature is not great. Picture is not the best on playback. Its watchable, but seems a bit stuttery. Sound is not brilliant either. Its grand using external speakers as I am, but sound from the internal speakers is tinny. Very noticeable at higher volumes. Digital text is extremely slow, so much that I never use it. If I need to use the text I just switch back to the analogue channels, but that text will be gone in 6 months.

edit : recyclebin says above that his recording experience is fine, so my problem may be that I am using a cheap as chips USB stick for recording.

When looking to buy a tv myself a few months ago, 32", with PVR, There were only two options, either a Walker or a Sony Bravia LCD. The walker as recyclebin said has a cheap feel to the remote and also very annoyingly slow to respond which drives me mad when installing tvs!!
With the price of the Sony Being down with the cash back and the extended warranty, i went for that. Much quicker to respond, has PVR, nice remote, Also it has a sharper picture and way better sound. The sony has the internet video on it also, (which the walker didn't have) via a lan cable. This is handy for tv3 player and other free programs (Few free documentaries and stuff).
Overall delighted i didnt go for the walker as i have tuned a few of these since and they can be annoying. The Sony is well worth the extra few bob on the day! imo

Has anybody any idea if RTE player is going to come out on the Sony internet video?
