    hey there,

I have abit of matchplay experience..

No 1 in tip in matchplay is never give up on a hole. u havent lost it until the hole is finished.
    example:
i was playing a match last week. i skyed my drive 170 yds on a par 4 and hit a 4 iron into the trees short left of the green. the guy i was playing hit it to 20 feet for birdie. The hole looked lost but i kept myself going, i pitched up to 15 feet and made the putt for par! he 3 putted from 20 feet for bogey. i actually won the hole!

no2 tip - try to use your shots cleverly. try to make at least a bogey on the holes u have shots to sqeez the other guy. if you do that, he will have to par the hole just to get a half:)

thats my two pence worth :)

    Relax and just enjoy it.
There is a saying "you can beat shots". It's the 9 hcper that has it all to do.

    Don't eat yellow snow.

    Just joking.

Stay in play as much as you can especially on the holes where you have shots on him. Course management will be key for you. By staying in play and making him work for every point will mean he will be pushing himself to make points which tends to lead to mistakes.

    Enjoy and best of luck.

Whatever you do never give up,I was playing matchplay last week was 2 down with 3 to play, the lad i was playing wasnt making any mistakes and putting very well I was thinking its over especially when I missed the green on 16,got a super up and down for par and he missed his par putt.i birdied 17&18 to beat him .u never know what's gonna happen it's never over until it's over

I know its easier said than done but keeping your ball in play at all times is vital. in my early matchplay days i was a little naive taking driver on most holes. losing tee shots and having to concede holes before we even got to the green :mad: i then starting taking three/five woods /long irons off the tee and eventhough u have a longer second at least my ball was in play more often than before. well thats my tuppence worth. bain taitneamh as :):)

We had a thread / discussion on this before, thread went way off topic for a while but do a search, there was some great info on it in between the rest of the "discussions!"

I agree with the tip to try to keep the ball in play and not give any holes away softly.

Use a 5 wood or even an iron from the tee. Aim for the centre of the green and if you get into trouble then take your punishment and don't try the heroic shot.
