Will Tubbs also be telling us what he's doing to his salary to help RTE pull back that €50m debt they've got?

Eddie Jordan wasn't an F1 driver

Pratchett's documentary on assisted suicide was a difficult but incredibly affecting piece of television.

It received the 2011 Royal Television Society Programme Awards in a category for single documentaries, being described by the judges as "groundbreaking, revelatory and profoundly moving."

Oh god, is Tubridy really a suitable person to question Pratchett? You only know he is going to ask the most cringey question ever, which will cause everyone viewing it to die of embarrasement. Whats that word when you feel embarrassed watching someone else?

I have a confession, a deep dark secret....................I have been very angry/annoyed with TUbs since the disaster he made of the LLS the night he had the 3couple on who had been trying IVF for yrs . He clumsily mixed this topic up with genetic selection type arguement. I felt this was a shocking example of his poor research and lack of empathy and general clumpishness.
Lately Ive heard him on the radio interviewing Joanne o Riordon and this morning he did a good job of interviewing a mother who is having a terrible time with her son, who has behavioural issues. He went way up in my estimation.
So Friday night I am going to look at Tubs with a fresh eye and hope he does not let us down again. I'm beginning to think that he is more suited to radio. The camera s seem to scare him.

Lisha - I completely agree with you - The old expression "He has a face for radio" comes to mind. The same more or less applied to Gerry Ryan also - Great on radio but don't put them on TV. RTE put the radio favourites on TV because it's handy and saves them looking for/bringing in new talent - any show regardless of quality, often with cringing results. These guys freeze when an auto-cue is put in front of them and the result is woeful TV. "Off the cuff" live seems to present a problem and the research is definitely not up to scratch. Mia Farrow's recent interview comes to mind. And the drumming of the hands on the table drives me scatty!

I agree Grey so what, it's a pity they push for TV but I assume money is a huge motivator there.
With Joanne O R on LLS Ryan was edgy, clumsy and ill at ease. On a phone call radio interview with Joanne he was funny articulate and so at ease. I know maybe he was more comfortable with her after speaking a few times but still on radio he was just so good.
This morning on a phone interview with a woman who s son has severe emotional difficulties, Ryan was human, real and it was just a great interview. He listened to her, reacted appropiately and was very engaged in the conversation. ON tv I don't find him to be fully engaged with his guests. I agree with the autocue causing problems, mens ability to multi task may be at fault here.:P I even found myself contrasting Ryan's style with the late G Ryan and Ryan T was the winner. (in my imagination just I know)
Here's hoping for a great show tomorrow night...........

Couldn't be any worse than the interview with Lorna Byrne last week Lisha. That was so bad it bordered on the disgraceful. Terry P. should be good but with the poor research by Mr. T. I'm frankly not expecting much - The rest of the line out doesn't inspire me - David Essex - where on earth did they dig him up from?...mind you, he was a fine looking thing in his time..ah well....we shall see as you say!! :)

Vicarious embarrassment. There's a German word Schadenfreude which has being used to describe viewing Tubridy in the past by certain members of the press. :pac:

No, no.. Schadenfreude more accurately describes the feeling when you read the JNLR figures and realise that he's lost another 4 thousand listeners.. God, it surely must tell you something about your abilities when John Murray is beating the pants off you in a head to head 9am-10am... It's like not being able to beat your grandmother in a fist fight..

Was there someone like this on the Late Late last year? I can remember watching it for a few minutes getting very angry and switching off (it was very soon after my brother died about 2 or 3 weeks), hoping this would be the one night my family were not watching.

Once I calmed down and thought about the person who found him, I was sorry I did not watch it.

Yes, he had a Dr. Philip Nitschke on the show about a year ago, who patented some sort of voluntary euthanasia machine, through the use of a laptop where the person wishing to die presses the button themselves

When does Tubbers finish up for the summer? In a weird way I'm going to miss reading these threads over the break. :( :pac:

I believe the idea is a skewed view of how the LLS was in the day.
In my opinion Tubbs and Co. awkwardly twist a topic or conversation to grate the viewers, mistakenly thinking tugging at raw nerves or being in bad taste, upsetting folk...is cutting edge TV.
It's the only reasoning I can give to his daft questions and morbid topics covered.

The guests tonight would have been passable 20, (Jordan) or 30 (Essex) years ago.
I'm sure the producer's neighbours neice will play a blinder with her band nobody heard of.

June 1st., a special show to mark 50 years of RTE - former posts PK and Gaybo will be on.

    campaigner Cathy Durkin

Is this the one from the Joe Duffy show about the Lipi skin cancer drug? If it is then it's pointless going on the show as they announced last night that those that need it will get it. It's a bit like closing the gate after the horse has gone.

The last 6 or so minutes of this was very difficult to watch, but well worth it, and that award couldn't be more deserved. Tempted to drop what I was going to do tonight just to watch Terry Pratchett and how he'll express himself on the topic.

Thoroughly depressing guestlist, and that's just the Voice guests.

Late Late Show becoming the Eurovision of Chat Shows. Not even bothering to try and be entertaining any more.
