Can't get my mac to join a Windows 7 Network

Hey Guys, for years I had my Windows XP computer sharing files on the network, and my macbook would pick it up fine every time. Now I changed to Windows 7 Ultimate - and although it sees the network fine, it will not connect - it wants a password. I have not set a password on the Windows 7 PC.

Can anyone tell me how I can go about making this work?
    Thanks

Are you using standard windows file sharing? Change the sharing properties to allow "everyone" access. Then try again.

It may be that windows sharing protocol has changed since XP.

On the win7 machine, click start > Computer then on the left click homegroup and look for View Homegroup password

Not sure if its only for other computers running Windows or if that works on the Mac, give it a go anyway

Ah, its only for windows OS

So, when I click on "Desktop-PC-7" which should show me the list of shared files on the network from my pc - its blank but at the top right there is "Connect as". Clicking this gives me a "login as" with a name and password required. I'm just not sure what this name and password is, I do not have a password on this pc. Maybe I can put one on, but how do I know what the name is?

Open Network and Sharing Center and choose "Change advanced sharing settings" on the left. In there, turn off password protected sharing.
