    Anyone thinking of going up?

    If anyone has been there before, how long does it take to get there from Dublin? Any does or don'ts?

    I've been before, a good day out in a lovely part of the country, but the bay they use isn't best suited for an airshow.... because of the shape of the prom and the bay, the flightline is usually quite a way from the crowd line....

    But then I've been spoiled by the likes of salthill where they could get up close or margate which was even closer (also displaying along the shoreline, but the crowd is about 200 feet up on a cliff!)

    That said there's usually a good lineup and a great turnout.

    Dublin (Northside) to Portrush is about 3 and half hours by car.

    I am thinking of staying there for both days, but don't have a place to stay yet. Has anyone rented b&b or hotel around portrush during the airshow weekend? I'm wondering how hard would it be to find a place at this points and how much would it cost?

    #ni2012 As well as the real thing in the sky on Sun 9th, there is a chance to view a replica RAF Typhoon Eurofighter on the ground for the first time.

    I've booked a twin room in Ballymoney for STG£60 B&B for the night. Booked it through booking.com.

    flightline for the fast jets is across the entrance to the bay & can be a bit distant if you are down where all the stalls etc. are, the slower props helos etc. etc can usually fly right over to the beach. I tend to go to the 'Blackrocks, on the west side of the bay, this is elevated & gives a good, closer & higher viewpoint.

    another advantage of this side of the bay is that if the sun makes an appearance it will be generally behind you giving better light (especially if you want to take some pics. (plus it's still only a short walk down the hill to the stalls/attractions etc.)

    here are some pics I took from there;

    Hope this helps,

    (Don't know if it has been mentioned here, but I think the red arrows are only displaying on the Sunday AFAIK)

    Nice pictures, Red Arrows are on the Saturday @ 5pm.. Pity about the lack of jets this year.. :(

    Only Red Arrows (On Sat), and the Typhoon and Hawk on the Sunday..
