Hi, I would like to buy Specialized Carve Pro 29 2013 bike and I heard that Cycleways is great bike shop for Specialized brand, but they are selling it for 2,167 EUR!!
Can anyone explain to me why is that price so high, compare to the other shops around UK and rest of the Europe? For example, in Prague, you can get that exact same bike for 1,700 EUR, in UK the price is between 1,900-2,000 EUR.
    It makes me really sad.

Well, I know where I'm buying my next bike.
Weekend trip to prague, and a new bike and flights for less than the price of the bike here, happy days.

The price in other countries is with tax already...

I know... I am from Prague and it makes me crazy. But they might ask you to pay an extra tax at the airport :(
That happened to my brother in law from Norway. Bought his bike in Prague and had to pay A LOT extra, when arrived in Norway.

Check this out... It's czech search engine where you can search for any product on the market and sort by price:

    http://www.zbozi.cz/?q=Specialized%20Carve%20Pro%2029%202013

    42,990 CZK = 1,700 EUR

You wouldn't have to pay it coming into Ireland as The Czech Republic is an EU member (Norway isn't) and there is no duty on anything bought inside the EU. You'd just have to pay to carry it on the plane (usually about €40), so next time you are home, pick up a new one there and bring it back with you.

living in austria I bought some stuff from online shops from the czech republic, even with the fees for curency conversio it was often a lot cheaper.

for exapmle I bought an epicon xc tad which was over 350€ in Austria for less than 200€.
Guess it's just because incomes are lower as are rents and so on, so shops can offer cheaper prices as ther expenses are not as high.

Have you factored in the price of trip to knocking shop?

There is a premium on many 29ers at the moment for whatever reason (probably 'cos they are getting away with it).

I have the 2012 version and it is a cracker of a bike but it is expensive when you compare the 'spec list against the price.

I did a few overseas price comparisons too, and found I was 'as well off' buying at LBS.

[edit] that's one heck of a price jump from the 2012 model!

most/all bike companys offer international warranties and anyone with a tool kit and youtube can service a bike. local bike shop can do more fiddly stuff.

I have the bike ordered... But I didn't pay for it yet... Maybe I could ask them for a discount... Especially when I'm purchasing another bike for my wife. Specialized Crosstrail Comp Disc - €1,159.99

    Why Specialized?

The new Giant XTC Carbon Composite with full Shimano XT is cheaper.... and better spec'd...

And there is a much bigger Giant dealer network in Ireland, so you may also get a better deal when purchasing two bikes locally...including free accesories so take the value of transporting two bikes from the Czech republic which is 2 x €50 + your fare/time/hassle.
As well as the fact that by buying a bike in Ireland you may also recieve up to a 15% discount on future purchases from there shop...

(and no i don't work for any bike shop/distributor)

I decided for this bike for couple of reasons...

I'm trying to buy a bike for over a year now! Let me describe you my horrific journey.

I'm in my 30's and till now, I was riding mtb bike I got when I was 13! :D
But wasn't really using it last 2 years... So any bike will be better than that :)
Anyway, I decided that it's time to get real bike. Since I was a kid, my dream bike was Cannondale brand. And because I'll be using it for commuting to work every day (not just trails at the weekends) I decided to go for hardtail. Cannondale Flash 29" al 1. When I first visited Cycleways to order it, they told me that it's not easy to get Cannondales and that it will take a while and they will contact me when they have some information. Never happened. Around the same time, one of my friends told me to go for full suspension bike, that my ars will appreciate it on long rides... So I decided to go Cannondale RZ 120 2. But, in Cycleways, they told me that they can get it in green color only. I wanted white model, which is available in other cannondale shops around Europe. No way. Green only. After that, new Scalpel 29" was introduced. And I loved it and decided to wait couple of months for its release. But the waiting was neverending and someone told that it would be really stupid to get FS bike for commuting and that I should really go for hardtail. Same guy told me that Specialized bikes have one of the best geometry for 29". And I picked Stumpjumper comp AL. BUT, it's not available in Ireland... only carbon version. I don't know why. So looked at other HT 29" and liked Giant XTC carbon... but NOT available. Out of stock. Anyway, every bike I ever picked, is not available or not possible to get in Ireland. And I got really frustrated... So I just decided to get a bike, which they guarantee to deliver in 2 weeks max. And that is Carve PRO. Decision made :)

    Exhausted after reading that! :D

Anyhoo, I have seen the 2013 XTC's in stock now for the past week....

:D and imagine living it... And I dropped some details :)

But I like Specialized brand over Giant, because the Czech guy who won mtb Olympics this year had Specialized :) So it's close to my heart now
