Can I bring my Sky card on holiday with me?

Ok so I'll be going away for a few days soon staying in a house where I know there is a Sky box with only the free channels on it.

I have a Sky subscription and a Sky + HD box at home so I was wondering if i just took the card out and stuck it in the other box would I get my full channel line up on that box?

Please note that the other Sky box is an older type, the white square fronted one (not sure if it's sky + but it's got the old EPG on it so it's not HD anyway. Obviously this means I won't get HD channels but how about the rest of them? Are all the cards the same, regardless of the type of box?

If the card alone won't work I'll just bring the whole box with me when I go but I'd rather not have to do that.

you'll need to bring the box with you. The card is activated for that box alone.

    Hi there,

I'm not really able to answer your question, but would you not just use Sky go instead? You can have it on 2 x mobile devices, and change one device per month.

Only works in the UK and Ireland, if you haven't an ip address for those then it doesn't work

    Incorrect,

Card will open all channels except premium ones i.e. sports or movies will not open

You would either have to get to your destination, put the card in the other box and ring Sky then to have it paired with that box or alternatively, as stated above, take your own box including the card with you. The second option isn't much good though if you were intending to record stuff while you were away

Thanks for all the replies (with the notable exception of Mellon  Good luck raising money for charity with that f*cking attitude in these economic times.)

I'll bring the box with me so.

I've used my card in other people's boxes, no problem, but just for the non-premium channels. Not to contradict some of your other replies - the situation may have changed, it was a while ago.

Why don't you try using your card in a friend's or relative's sky box for an evening and see if it works? Just remember to disconnect any phoneline to their box while you do so, until you have finished your test.

The above is correct .... just bring the card.

To get sports & movies you will have to phone them and pair the card/box.
This may involve lying and or hiding your phone number if your holiday is outside the british isles.
