The Archos 101 G9 8GB was only released late last year, so it is fairly new.
I Know it's Pixmania, but it's well worth it. I'll be buying one to keep.
OS is upgradeable to JellyBean, and CyanogenMod have released their version. For a 10 inch Tablet you will find it hard to beat for that value.

    Delivery = €9.99

    PIXMANIA - ARCHOS 101 G9 + Headrest Case/Mount

    1 x audio / video - HDMI
Operating System / Software OS Provided Android 3.2 (Honeycomb)
    Miscellaneous
    Sensors
    Digital compass
    Accelerometer
    Features
    Vibration mode
    Built-in kick stand
    Integrated microphone
    Included Accessories Power adapter

EDIT: Changed the link to the bundle, which is still a good offer, you just have to buy the casemount now, or the Travel Charger.

But the Headrest/Casemount seems to be better value as it's normally €29.99

My 9 year olds are looking for tablets from Santa.

Being not too tech savvy regarding tablets, would this be okay for downloading/playing apps etc?

Also, what are pixmania like re: delivery etc?

    Thanks in advance.

I think it was released this time last year and its the G9 turbo that you're thinking of that launched in March this year.

For 99 its certainly better than the cheap tablets with Rockchip processors and TN panels that make up most of the 100 tablet market.

You get what you pay for though and anybody expecting miracles for 100 will be disappointed.

Pixmania are good for delivery AFAIK but dreadful for returns/warranty. Archos tablets don't have the best reputation either. You won't get a better 10" tab for the price though.

For kids a 7" tab might be better as a 10" would likely get dropped.

I think a few will grumble about Pixmania postage...

This tablet has Google Play installed so all the Apps are available and easy enough to download. It's a good size at 10 inches, Also has an SD card slot to add storage to it. It was released late last year for €299, this is a big drop since May.

Reviews HERE when it was €299 give it four out of five stars. Now it's €200 cheaper.

Pixmania post from Paris, and use DHL, while some find them slow, they also have an annoying (to say the least) Customer Service. Seeing as most of the Other Tablets ordered here, are from China, their customer service wouldn't bother me.

I'm buying one, If i need to use customer service, so be it, but i'm hoping i won't have to, most of the time, as with any company, you don't need to.

If you are asking me, i would say buy it.

Good point.. Depending on what your kids are like, you may want to get a case if you do buy it.

Kindles are suited to ebooks due to the e-ink screen and long battery life.

This would be a more versatile choice but not a better choice for pure e-reading.

I bought my mother a 10 Inch Tablet (Advent Vega) about a year or so ago, My sister then bought her a Kindle.

She reads ALL her books, and newspapers on the Tablet. She's not mad about the Kindle at all. I don't think she has used it.

There's not a lot in it.. Some would go with the Ainol, but the Archos has better screen resolution, bigger screen, and longer life battery.

The Ainol has an IPS screen

Archos has Bluetooth - None on Ainol
Ainol has no GPS - Archos Does

Yes on Archos - No on Ainol

    UMTS
    HSDPA
    Internal 3G HSPA
    Internal 2G EDGE
    Internal 2G GPRS

Accelerometer sensor on Archos is 3D

Archos records video at 720p. Don't know what Ainol does.

Ainol has slightly better clock speeds on processor at 1.5. Archos 1.2

The Archos is cheaper than the Futeko link.

Excellent price, quick google shows this model scoring good reviews upon release @ close to 300 price point, at the current price it's a no brainer.

Bought one myself to replace my older Archos 7" Tablet. All I really do is watch media/very odd bit of web browsing.

i remember years back my friend had an old Archos but whether he wanted to play mp3s or movies, he always seemed to have issues with codecs and had to pay for them!
    How is it now?

how are they for video playback?
do they still lack some codecs?

No. They run Android OS. Which can play most codecs now, along with their built in codecs.

It has HDMI out, and can play most codecs.

I think they used to charge $10 to download a plugin, but AFAIK that's been done away with. Would be easy to get it now anyway.

Can you charge this one via USB ? thats my gripe with the previous generation Archos.

Bit crappy the way you have to pay extra for codecs also.

    Got mine today as well.

Nice tablet, build a little light but screen is good.

It's a 1.2Ghz Dual Core with SGX540 GPU, tried a few 3D games including a few FPS titles and they work excellently.

Incredible bargain for the money, really glad I bought one.

    :)

I would sell you mine, but I took it home yesterday evening after it had been delivered to the office and I had the day playing with it.
Our 3 year old daughter came and sat down besides me whilst I was having another look, she spotted the youtube icon....well this was it....noone else has had a look in since

It seems they took more orders than they had items in stock. There is no internal date for the renewal of stock on the pixmania system!

Has anyone seen an offer nearly as good as this anywhere? I hate 7-inch tablets...
