Do any of you use condensed milk in your coffee?

Ive been using condensed milk sometimes in my coffee, especially with espressos.

I'd have never thought about it myself, but I lived in Tenerife for 4 years and had them every day there. They call them Leche Leche for what is basically a tall sized latte with condensed milk to sweeten it. The shot sized espresso ones are called Cortado Leche Leche.

All the supermarkets sell condensed milk in plastic squeezy bottles, the same type of bottle you would get fruit flavoured syrups in for ice creams.

The reason I ask is that I cant find any of these squeezy bottles of milk. Only tins, and they go off after a few days and are quite difficult to get into the cups without making a mess and getting your fingers sticky.

I found a photo of it online.

Here is a cortado leche leche, quite a pretty wee thing, almost seems a shame to stir it before drinking it!

Anyone know where I could buy the condensed milk in the bottle in the pic? Its really cheap in Tenerife for coffee, about 90c for the espresso and 1.20c for a regular white coffee. Cafe con leche as they call it.

Why not just use the stuff that comes already mixed?

I can only imagine how awful that tastes!

I make cheap-o white chocolate mochas at home like this:

    Heat milk in microwave
1 tea spoon on extra strong instant coffee
3 tea spoons of bewley's white chocolate power (anyone know a cheap white chocolate power alternative?)
    Stir
A few squirts of condensed milk
    Stir again

I've had a few White Cafe Mocha's in Starbucks before and I know they add condensed milk. The above recipe tastes even better than Starbucks in my opinion.

Dunnes stores and Superquinn sell the bottle of condensed milk. In my Dunnes the bottled version isn't beside tinned version, it's actually beside hot chocolate. It's called Nestle's Carnations or something. It's a red and white bottle.

i havent used condensed milk but i have used coffee melk in holland which is similar. just a few drops in a regular coffee was really nice but the quality of the coffee wasnt great. since i started using really good quality coffee i wouldnt dilute it with anything as the flavors are just so good and i wouldnt like to lose any of the subtleties.

I'd suggest they add condensed milk to the coffee due to disguise something...

You can get the stuff in the tins in a squeezy bottle too.
    Superquin do this:

No way, the coffee in Tenerife is fantastic. Ive no idea what type it is, but the standard in virtually every single cafe or bar is fantastic. Usually the only place you will get a bad cup of coffee is if you go to any of the UK based bars and cafes. The locals wouldnt accept bad coffee.

WOW that Nestle carnation stuff is 3.20EUR in Superquinns. Tesco sell Farmlea tinned stuff for under 1.73EUR for only 35g less. Hmmm Nestle are charging twice the price here in Ireland.

buy a generic sealable squeezy bottle and fill it with tins :)

I was actually thinking about doing that! I'll probably buy the real bottle and then reuse it, so it at least looks OK. Not that anyone else is going to see it, but......

We have some of the best fresh milk in Europe if not the world. I can understand if you were based in the tropics or in a country where obtaining and storing fresh milk was a bother.

    Elaboration

    I will accept that:
    A. It's a drink
    B. You like it

    But thereafter... *sigh*

Have you tried any Asian shops for it? As coffee with condensed milk is popular in those parts, Vietnam and Philippines for example, so you may have some joy there.

I can understand your preference for condensed milk with coffee. It's flavour is unobtainable by substituting with fresh milk and sugar due to the canning process which (favourably) affects the flavour. Also, if you pour a tin into a pot and cook it over medium heat until it's a light golden brown you get a nice caramelised flavour, plus it makes it easier to pour into a squeezy bottle.

So based on that I would be even more likely to post "sigh" in response to your original post which serves even less purpose than mine! ;)

Anyway I was wanting to know where to get it, Id been in Dunnes, Lidl, Aldi and Tesco and had not seen it. I even went into the Lituanica shops trying to find it without success. The nearest Superquinn to me is in Swords, which is a fair bit from Clogherhead.

To find out its in a different section of Dunnes is a great joy!

I was in JC's in Swords yesterday, they have Nestle Condensed milk in the tin for 1.79E and the slightly cheaper Farmlea tin for 1.09E. That's 1.41 less than Superquinns, Tesco and Dunnes sell the Nestle tin. In fact JC's sell the nestle tin for the exact same price that Tesco sell the Farmlea tin.

I know its a different product but Aldi have evaporated milk by the tin. Seeing as that its not sweetened the way Condensed milk is then its probably not going to do the trick for you but thought I'd mention it.
