TD Direct or Saxo..Your experience or advice please

I traded with Sharewatch in the past but I have been using Davy & Dolmen on an advisory basis in the past few years.

I want to get back into direct on-line share trading myself, beginning with a portfolio value of approx. €20-25k and about 5-10 trades a year.

As Sharewatch are no longer an option, I am considering TD Direct and Saxo. (Davy Select Fees are too high). I noticed on this board that people were having problems opening accounts with TD & Saxo, so I applied to both of them and have been accepted by both :)

Does anyone have experience of both of these on-line brokers.
Saxo looks to have better fees and trading platforms but currently does not offer trading on the ISEQ. Not a deal breaker but something to consider. The TD setup looks very straight forward and they were very efficient with the account application.

Any experience or advice on these two would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I have been using the Saxo & TD Demo accounts for a few days now. The Saxo platform looked a bit daunting at first but when I reduced the modules on display to just the basic share trading info, its actually quite good. I especially like the facility to set a Trailing Stop Loss as TD only offer a 'fixed' Stop Loss feature, so you would have to manually increase it ever day or so (assuming the price is increasing).

I use saxo. They have both a web client for when you are on the move. They also have a mobile client.
They have a downloadable client too for your pc but I just use the web client.

Fees are reasonable. They have access to a lot of markets.

Yes, I downloaded the iPhone App and it looks good, TD only appear to have a mobile app for their US clients, so 1 up for Saxo there. However the Saxo downloadable client is Windows based and I am a mac user, but then again TD don't have any downloadable client, so 1/2 a point for Saxo on that one.

I have seen some reports on the web that clients have had difficulty withdrawing funds. Have you had any problems in this regard?

I got notification of Saxo's new inactivity fee yesterday. I had recently joined Saxo to avoid the inactivity fee of FXCM. Saxo's inactivity fee is 0.28% per annum. If you trade 5 times within a month, the fee for that month will be waived.

As fees go, this is quite small. I would prefer to have no fee, but it looks like that might be a thing of the past
