Samsung 6series Smart tv with Freesat

    Hi All...
I'm thinking of buying this tv and have a setup question for the inbuilt freesat so I hoping one of the experts here can help me.

I currently have sky+ and was wondering can I run the inbuilt freesat in conjunction with the skybox, say Irish epg on the skybox and having all the itv's/chnl 5's etc on the freesat (more importantly how would this configure).

Do I need to run a separate co-ax from the quad lnb direct to the sat-input on the tv or is there any way of splitting one of the 2 inputs to the skybox as a feed to the inbuilt freesat....saving me having to runa 3rd cable to the tv ??
    Any advice much appreciated.

It needs its own cable from the LNB on the dish arm.

If the TV has Saorview you would also need a TV aerial and another cable.

You should look into the Smart options. Some people have said they are not much use.
You may have problems recording from the FreeSAT channels, as the TV probably only has one tuner. This may mean, if you add a seperate hard drive, you may only be able to record ITVs and Channel 5 and the TV may not allow watching other channels while this happens.

If the few channels not on Sky are important a seperate FreeSAT box would be cheaper. A FreeSAT + HD box would allow recording of FreeSAT channels, while watching other channels.

Mixing Sky with FreeSAT would be a bit messy with multiple remotes etc.

    Thank you both.
I thoght I'd need a seperate cable for the freesat ok but almost had my limited knowledge turned by the 'experienced' person in DID.

Wasn't particularly interested in using the inbuit freesat tbh as I already have sky...it was more the possibilty of having the extra channels readily available without having to go into 'other channels'.

Initially I was going to go for the 5 series (without freesat) but the advantage of using the 6 series inbuilt wifi over the 5 series needing a dongle(and the dongle cost bringing it upto nearly the same price as the 6 series) pushed me towards the 6 series.

Sorry for hogging the Sat thread further than necessary. Will take this over to Home entertainment for more advice.

have a look at this thread:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056713934
I bought a Samsung ES6300 recently for the built-in Freesat tuner and recording functionality.

My setup is slightly different in that we also have Sky+, but it's in another room with a a co-ax connection to this new TV. So I can switch between the Freesat tuner (have a direct feed from the dish as used to have an old out-of-sub Sky box for watching FTA sat channels) and the Sky+ co-ax.

That means switching tuners (Aerial vs DVB-S2) which is a bit cumbersome on the remote and also means I can't watch a Sky channel while recording a Freesat channel on the USB HDD plugged into the TV.

I'd have thought this wouldn't be an issue if the Sky box was local and connected via HDMI or Scart though because I don't think the TV needs to change tuners in that case. Instead you're selecting to watch a different input source (HDMI 1, AV1 etc.) so the Freesat tuner will still be active in the background.

In fact, having just upgraded to Sky HD, I'm thinking of routing a long (15-metre) HDMI cable to this TV rather than the co-ax feed!

Thanks for this Gwynston. The skybox is local and uses HDMI to the tv. Viewing freesat would be, as you say thru another input soure as freesat would always be active in the background. A 3rd co-ax will be required direct ot the freesat though.
Will le you know if I go ahead and try it.

Hi guys...sorry to bring this up again but cant find the answer any where online so maybe someone here can help as its really pi**in me off.

I bought the Samsung ES6300 lately and can recieve Saorview and all free to air channels on satellite no problem.

My problem starts when I try to scan for channels on Freesat even after doing the set up with UK for everything and using a UK postcode for the search.

When it starts to scan its scanning on Eurobird only, reading 0% for about 10 secs then shoots up to 97% then says it found 187 TV channels and when I press ok the message comes up "Weak or no signal, check your connections etc".

So, my question is, surely it should be scanning Astra but I dont seem to have an option on the Freesat scan to specify which satellite it scans.

Any help would be much appreciated as I'm fed up trying to organise the channels on FTA :)

    Shay

That Eutelsat 28A (formerly Eurobird 1) transponder (11426 mHz, H. pol.), is the main source of data for the Freesat epg.

It might be that your dish is not 100% aligned. Try the TV in another house with a dish and see if it works. Also try a factory reset and set country to UK.

Cheers lads....I sorted it an hour after posting here, did a reset like ZG3409 said and its working fine now though cant understand why it wouldn't work previously and of course the manual is like something a 5 year old would write and no help at all.

Any of ye notice why they seem to keep losing the wireless connection or maybe thats only me too? :)

This tv is in the bedroom and my laptop and Samsung Galaxy s2 work perfect with the internet there but the tv leaves a lot to be desired...maybe not so smart tv's after all :(

    Thanks again for replying

I am having the same issue with my tv. May be that it's on the edge of my router signal and I've been meaning to move it closer to the tv to see if that's what's casuing the problem....haven't got around to it yet thoug.

I hope to move my router this weekend if I get a chance and will let ya know how I got on...

Well, I moved the router and connected it up to the tv via a network cable and its 100% better but cant really comment on whether its any better wirelessly but just watched Love/hate and it played really well :)

I have a Samsung 7000 series and I cannot get the wireless to work properly. It works well on the DVD player with smarthub that is under the TV. I suspect the the wifi aerial is not well placed. Connect it with wire and no problem and place next to the router and no problem.

TV is great for picture quality, etc.

Not impressed with its ability to record as the HDD has to be formatted.

Haven't tried the hdd with it yet...one thing at a time ;-)
Me thinks these "smart" tv's ain't very intelligent....

I've tried a few HDDs. One that has no external supply does not work at all (500gb) even though the USB port says it will supply an amp @ 5v. [There is one USB port that is marked 1A rather than 500ma]. Another one [1TB] works and replays TS files, but will not record unless I reformat. [Goodbye data and portability].

A USB stick shows photos OK, but I would need to reformat.

Basically, the smart bit is not smart at all. It tries to be a computer and is too slow to be of use. The network connection is poor and the user the interface is rubbish. It could do with a little help from another company good at software interfaces and usability, and good smart phones.
