    Taken by yourself of course!

I think it would be great to get a little detail/background and maybe some technical info on the shot too.

To get the ball rolling - this is mine

' A sunny August afternoon in Croke Park up in the stands – predicting an easy win for the Dubs over the visitors from Mayo.
Brought the camera along to catch the 5 goals the Dubs would surely score.

Dubs beaten – and all I got was this….'

    Nikon 80-400mm lens @ 310mm

I've a few favorites from this year, I think this came out the best.

I saw some intentional movement shots on flickr and thought I'd give it a go.

I have to many favourites to choose from so I went for my most viewed photo on Pixie to make it easier.
Heard a loud thud late one night and looked out and realised a car had been firebombed in the back of my flats.

I bought my first camera in April, so I wouldn't say I have any particularly good shots this year. I've mostly been trying to build the skill set required to do some more abstract stuff, with photography as the starting point.

But I liked this one which I took in May. Not because it's a great photo or anything, but because it was my first time really thinking about the framing and composition - and probably my first time taking a photo that wasn't just a mindless reproduction of a scene in front of me (or "mindless reproduction PLUS 'BOKEH'!!!"). It was the first time I was sort of almost happy with a photo I'd taken.

Although looking at it now I think I might hate the title.

This makes me smile when I print it big and looks smashing in a box frame. It gets a great curious reaction from people when they first notice it hanging up, which is just a lovely feeling...

This one is mine, purely for the amount of time it took to find him and his perch. Now I see him every day I walk the dogs, come the breeding season I will try again thankfully my permit to photograph them was renewed for 2013.

This one would have to be my personal favourite for 2012, for a number of reasons. This type of tranquil landscape photo is what originally awakened my interest in photography and although I shoot across a variety of categories I still thoroughly enjoy these type of photos. No matter how stressed I may be in the run up, there is something very relaxing about being out at some ridiculous hour of the morning, alone, capturing these scenes:

Probably this one. Went with my college Photographic Society on a photowalk, with the intention of doing long-exposure shots. This is what came of it.

This one was taken at a friends wedding and was natural, not set up.
Just one of those photos that make you smile when you uploaded it to the pc.

There are a few I liked throughout the year. Most of which were planned in advance/set up. However, I think my overall favourite is this (obviously unplanned) one:

Has to be this one for me. Taken at Kings of Concrete, it was a horrible cold and wet day, but eventually there was a bit of a break in the weather and caught the skater at just the right time. Looks great printed and stuck on the wall!

One of my favourites, went viral on Facebook (for me anyhow)/ Plenty of shares 50+ which was fantastic for me.

Long exposure of the Cliffs of Moher from Doolin.

    f20, 70mm, ISO 100 for 20seconds.

It was close to dark and was the last shot of the evening. The colour is pretty much as was that evening.

On a very wet and windy day in Southern Iceland during the summer. Lucky to see plenty of puffins but struggled to get close or get a good composition with a group of them, not to mention rain on lens problems (I had no lens hood with me). This is one of the last I took before moving on.

Has to be sunrise over my home townland. It was one of the first photos that i properly planned. i had done scouting for and some test images the previous day, found a good vantage point, checked weather, sunrise and got up super early to catch the sunrise. Was very pleased with how it all came out.

I think this is my favourite of 2012. I had taken another Gorilla shot in 2011 http://pix.ie/asadlier/2287668/size/800 which was taken in the old enclosure in Dublin Zoo - the poor Gorilla looked depressed! This shot was taken in the new enclosure on the "African Plains" area of the Zoo, a much better setup altogether.
