Looking for some feedback on selling my car

    Hey,

I've been trying to sell my Passat since beginning of December. Initially, I thought the lack of calls was down to when I put the ad up, so left until after January. I've since reduced the price to sell significantly (I have the cheapest car on carzone for that year - apart from 1 other petrol model), and yet I'm still not getting calls.

I'm looking for opinions from you guys on what would entice someone to make a call regarding this car. I've attached a link to my ad below and was wondering if you could take a look and let me know what you think.

Have you got the ad up on DoneDeal? If not then get up up there as it will get a lot more traffic than Carzone. Probably not a bad idea to throw it on Adverts also.

Agreed, Done Deal will give you a much faster response time - put my 2002 Passat up on a Saturday evening with 9 good quality pictures and got 7 calls within an hour. I do have one gripe though, your pictures should be in landscape mode and maybe in a more open spaced area.

Aye the pictures could be better quality. Im guessing some were taken with a phone camera?

Why no reg? Is it stolen, crashed, etc?

Quinang... You've made a good start here (letting people know you've a motor for sale!) also let your friends/aquaintances/workmates aware your selling your motor..... people would prefere to buy off sombody they know as might be more honest history of car... & good luck!!

Cheers. Will get it up on donedeal. It is already up on Adverts

€7500? Really. It's already priced about €500 lower than any other model in that year. I do want to sell it but I obviously want to get the best price I can for it.

:) No, not stolen or anything else. I honestly thought this was the done thing.

@ all. Really appreciate the quick responses. hadn't expected this level of response at all, let alone inside 40 minutes.

    So, I will:
    1. Put it up on donedeal
    2. Get some new pictures (will take a little longer)
    3. Review the price though I'm not sure I can drop it to €7500
    4. Leave the reg plates in the pic

mention if it has a service history and any maintenance that was recently carried out.

You have a pic of the interior but its taken from too far away - try to get a pic of the whole dash in aswell, and take one across the back seats.

OP, your description states "Just been NCT'ed" and that the NCT is till January 2014. This does not add up as it shows as an NCT being valid for a year only. Is it not supposed to have 2 years?

I didn't actually NCT the car until August last year. It was due in January, but didn't bring it in on time. Even though the NCT was completed in August, it will only run from the time it was due to 2 years onwards, so it's only NCT'd until Jan 14

Be that as it may it is not how it comes across on the site so I would not mention the part of "just been NCT'd". The main point is who ever gets it would have only a years worth of NCT. I would look at it from that point if I was looking for a car.

You don't mention if there is any tax on it either, so again I would presume there is none which is another €900 they would need to pay straight out as I don't think January 2008 falls in to CO2 based calculation.

In any case good luck with sale!

I'd disagree, if it's just passed the NCT then put that in the ad. I mean, if it had passed it a year ago who knows what could be wrong with it. Just passing is a good thing, and it adds to the ad imo.

This is a really good point. The car is actually taxed until April this year. Also, it's on the new emissions rate (360 euro for this year). I should state this since it's likely to be a factor in any decision.

    Thanks.

Slightly embarrassed that I haven't already included that information :o

The car is a UK import. Most UK imports have a service history yet there is no mention of service history in the advert. The mileage also might put off alot of Irish buyers as they have a stigma about anything with 100k miles on the clock. To them it is ready to explode. That and the fact that there are lots of Passats for sale so irrespective of how cheap asking price some cars can take some time to sell.

I haven't included that but will do so. I brought it in last year (April) and it had FSH up to that time. I have since serviced it prior to NCT in July. Also changed the tyres on front.

Actually this is getting embarrassing because they I am missing very basic info.

I have posted on donedeal but I need to do an update. Will do so later and add this obvious detail

Thanks again all, and if you don't mind I'll post a link of the new ad later this evening for more valued feedback.

more reasons it needs to be €7500.

Why is that then? I've brought each of the last 5 cars that I've owned in from the UK. Whatever stigma you have associated with them may not be the same for everyone. Fact is that it's already priced keenly by comparison anyway. As I said earlier, I know I can sell the car if I'm willing to let it go for little or nothing, but I want to get the best price.
And while I know the UK salt their roads more, their roads are better maintained than here so. High mileage cars from the UK are far more likely to have spent significant time on motorways, unlike high mileage cars from ireland where motorways are not as common.

Thanks for the all the advice so far. I've reposted the ad on donedeal and have already been contacted 4/5 times. I've also updated the ad since I originally posted it, taking on some of the feedback I've got here.

I know the pictures still need work (which if not sold by this w/end I'll review), but otherwise I think it's in much better shape.

I still welcome any other feedback.

4/5 calls is a good response.

Your job from there is to get them view the car. From there close the deal.

I've nothing against uk cars I can assure you (buying and selling uk cars is my bread and butter) .....but its high miles, lots for sale and if you want to cut to the chase, get it sold, €7495 is the hot spot for that car. You've it at 8k, and you'll invariably get offers below 8, maybe a €7500 offer, so why not say €7495 from the off!
Also, a video ad will get your phone ringing even more, I can assure you.
