Provisional Allianz Football League fixture list
    10 October 2012

The draft fixture list for next year's Allianz Football League has been released.

All-Ireland champions Donegal will travel to Kildare for their opening game in Division 1 on Sunday, February 3. Jim Gavin's first game in charge of Dublin will be against Cork the day before, possibly at Croke Park. However, the prospect of another Spring Series involving the Dubs appears limited as their footballers and hurlers are scheduled to be on the same ticket on only Saturday night, March 16, when they will face Tyrone and Limerick respectively.

Eamonn Fitzmaurice's first game as Kerry manager will be away to beaten All-Ireland finalists Mayo on February 3, while the opening weekend will also feature Laois at home to Armagh and Down at home to Tyrone.

Venues, times and dates for all games are open to change.

Some very interesting ties in next years league. From a Dubs point of view I can see us making the league playoff and if not we will be mid table at worst.I'm happy with the away games against Kerry (hopefully in Killarney) and Donegal will be nice enough in April.I do think there is the possibility that Kildare v Dublin could be taken out of Kildare and put in Croke Park as the two neighbouring counties will bring a lot of fans to the game andI do not think Newbridge capacity can pass health and safety regulations but then again the game can very well be played there.

Out of the 2 relegation spots in Division 1, I can see either Kildare,Tyrone or Down getting relegated and I think Cork will be favourites to win the league final. It will be interesting to see Dublin and Kerry under new management.Probably moreso for Kerry as I think a change in tactics and stylemay be introduced with a lot of fresh blood given their chance.

I expect to see McCaffrey and Johnny Cooper in the mix at some stage of the league.Looking forward to heading to Kerry 9th February.:D

I notice Kilkenny must have pulled out of the league. Not mentioned in the Div 4 fixtures above anyway.

Yeah they've also pulled out of the U21s and I believe the Juniors as well.

Kilkenny footballers withdraw from Allianz League
    10 October 2012

Kilkenny footballers have withdrawn from the leagueKilkenny have opted out of next year's Allianz Football League following a series of humiliating defeats this year.

The county has also withdrawn from the next year's Leinster junior and U21 football championships. Instead, the Cats will enter the new British championship in 2013 where they will play London B teams, as well as teams from other parts of England and one from Scotland. This competition will be played on a round-robin basis.

The move was unanimously approved by delegates at last Monday night's county board meeting. Since returning to the Allianz League four years ago, Kilkenny have recorded just one win - against London in 2008 - and have been on the receiving end of some serious hammerings. In the eight games they played in Division 4 this year, they conceding 26-195 and scored just 3-25.

In this year's Leinster U21FC, Louth beat them by 50 points.

Pointless KK being in it anyway. Their 21s were beaten by something like 50 points this year, by Louth or someone.

Tough campaign for Meath in division 3. Monaghan and Wicklow away in the first two matches won't be easy. We've also failed to beat Roscommon and Antrim away in the last few years. Have to get over our atrocious away record if we want to be back in division 2 next year. It ain't gonna be as easy as a lot of people think.

Another bit of brilliant scheduling by GAA-put the all-ireland champions out on a dreary Sunday afternoon in the worst ground in the country-no offence kildare.
Hopefully common sense will prevail and will be moved to Sat night double header at Croker

Why should Kildare have to move their games out of Kildare?

Some looking for Donegal and Dublin game moved to Croke Park.

cos they dont have a ground capable of holding a big crowd.

Newbridge's capacity should be perfectly sufficient for all Kildare's matches with the exception of the Dublin match. There was 4 to 5 thousand at most of the Division 2 matches there in the past few years and there was plenty of room. I doubt there'll be that much more of a crowd there for Donegal, Kerry and Tyrone. 7 to 8 thousand tops. The ground could still easily hold that even with its reduced capacity. It's only just over ten years ago that there was nearly 14,000 inside there for a qualifier with Donegal. The decision to move the Dublin match should be left up to the Kildare County Board. If they want the match as an all-ticket affair in St Conleth's Park then their wishes should be respected. I expect they'll concede home advantage on that one for a good cut of the gate in Croke Park though.

I'm not sure that there'll be a massive swell in the Kildare support for these league games anyway. The opposition are more attractive than in Division 2 but there's a lot of disquiet about the county setup at the moment and I could see this escalating if the team loses a few games in February. I've already heard of two players who have opted off the panel for next year.

    Thats all fair enough.
My original point was that the all ireland champions should start their campaign in a saturday night game under lights at a decent ground . Again no offence but a Sunday game in Newbridge its like putting the defending Wimbledon champ out on Court 17 at 7 o clock in the evening.

What players have "opted out" of the panel??

Also newbridge may be in need of development but it is our county grounds, Kildare shouldn't have to move any game to suit crowds. Although extra revenue is always a plus point..

In saying that I wouldn't mind a trip to croker and the big lights.. Just looking forward to intercounty football starting back up. Nothing better than road trips and entertaining other fans when on home turf!

I've heard that Chalky has to do a spell overseas with the army this year and that Dessie Lawlor has also opted out. A few more of the fringe players are considering their options and the size of the panel is to be reduced anyway due to the financial situation.

Appropriate to bump this thread now the pre seasoners are out of the way in the football. Hard to see anyone stop the juggernauts that are now Kerry, Tyrone Leitrim and Kildare surely?

Division One is going to be great this year. Hopefully Donegal have a proper run at it this year in which case it could be the most competitive D1 ever.

Seems unlikely given their McKenna Cup form. They barely tried a leg last year, early on anyway. Will be interesting to see what they come out with. Either way, the first 2 Divisions look to be dynamite and there's usually some good to come from the lower two also.

Yeah they played it very weird last year, as you said not trying a leg for most of it but then almost randomly deciding to play well on one or two occasions, like when they completely shut down Cork.

I wonder if Jim was trying not to give certain teams he fancied he could beat a proper look at his side, but felt he needed a real performance to get the measure of Cork or something like that.

Div 1 would be more competitive if they didn't have semi finals for a group of 8. I think Div2,3 will be more competitive TBH. Donegal are unlikely to take the league serious they peak themselves for the championship.

I would say they left their games to win until late in the competition to ensure promotion, anything else was just shadow boxing. I'll be honest, if Kildare can't beat them Sunday, don't expect to see the white shirts winning much on that pitch this year.

Interesting opening weekend from all 4 Division of the NFL. Croke Park told us nothing we already didnt know, Cork are in danger of some decline under Counihan and are crying out for a fresh voice, Dublin have unmerciful supply of talent available to them and are pack leaders at present, Kildare are little or no different to other years and still lacking a bright scoregetter despite the furore over the debutants, Donegal are way off their September form, but were at this stage last year too so nothing too much to worry about for them, yet. Tyrone were functional in getting past a Down side who look stalled since losing Clarke, and Kerry have huge rebuilding to do while Mayo are impressive, but as dour as Kildare with a little more talent and a midfield to boot.

Division 2 may be where we get the more entertaining football this year with Meehan back in Galway colours and Laois picking up where they left off last Summer allied to Kingston's return. Armagh are tearing it down to rebuild again under Grimley but look 2 years off anything of note and could very well be relegated. Derry will be their usual brute selves while waiting for Paddy to return and Longford may well feel the pain of two successive promotions while Wexford will inevitably slip back through Ryan's loss and Dunne's bloody mindedness. Westmeath will be very interesting and outside Galway and Laois could be the dark horses here, Louth are in a similar place to Wexford without the lunacy.

Division 3 threw up the biggest shock with Monaghans demolition of Meath, not sure I'd worry just yet as a Meath fan but it can't have been easy to watch. Nice to see Monaghan spark again and they should get better with people to return. Fermanagh continue to improve under PTG and will spring a surprise or two, same for Roscommon who have some real talent there and a trip to Div 2 could do them the world of good. Cavan are a year or two behind Roscommon in that matter, but coming up the lines fast. Wicklow could be in trouble, while Sligo won't motor until Championship but will do enough.

Rainbow's to be seen in Carlow with their win over Tipperary, combined with the good work being down by Dempsey there could be something brewing there. Leitrim came back to earth with a defeat against a ropey enough looking Limerick side. Micko will need to buck up quick in Clare, but then Micko doesn't do league so we'll give them a bye for now. Hard to know what to read into Offaly, we'll know more after next weekend and McNamee returns but Anton Sullivan continues to progress.

Roll on Round 2. Good to have it back.
