How much petrol can u put in in a 1.0 Micra (1997) ?

just got one and the petrol light is already on even tho it shows half tank full.
according to the previous owner the needle is working (and seems to work when i put in more petrol).

but whats the story with having the light flashing at already half of the tank?
how much is left in the tank then?
    10 litres?
    more?
im afraid to test it out and be stranded somewhere ha

To the best of my knowalage, a 97 Micra doesn't have a fuel light. My 96 one doesn't and there were little or no changes in the 97 model.

    Tank capacity is 42 litres.
Are you sure it's the "low fuel" light?

That's odd. 98 facelift model micra's don't even use that light, they just use a round yellow light on the fuel gauge.

Is your's a Micra or a jap import March?

Either way, the light shouldn't be on if the gauge is reading half full. Have you tried filling it to the brim to see how much it takes? This will give you an idea if the gauge is off or not.

I think its an import but have to check again!

weird, didnt try it yet, only filled in a tenner or 20 quid so far and then the light was off. until i would reach half of the tank again.
will try it the next time (see how much i can put in) and see what happens then. at least i know now that the capicity is 42 litre. that should help me to not run out of petrol :)

Is the speedo in KMH and does it have a square rear reg plate?

If yes then its a March and they have different gauges with a fuel light like the one you posted.

no its mph and miles, I'll post a pic of the gauge later on or tomorrow

Doesnt matter if its an import or not! If the light is coming on at the half way mark the gauge is most probably broken and "overeading".

If you were to brim it, I'd be certain that even though it's at the indicated "half-way" mark (meaning only another ~20 litres should fit) you'll get close to ~35-40 litres in there.

Brimming it is the only way to find out for sure.

Right, I found out now the hard way yesterday evening :D

the tank is empty as soon as the needle goes down to half of the tank.
    weird.
at least i know now when the tank is empty cause the needle still works kinda fine.
filled the whole tank now, so shouldnt be stranded anytime soon again:D

I would hazard a guess and say that the car may be clocked.

When gauges are over reading to that degree, it usually means the clocks have come out at some stage and have been put back in without the needle being correctly re-calibrated.

    its just that?

like putting them out and back in?
    thanks for your advise :)
