Howdy! I'd don't know if the AH trip to Iceland actually went ahead but I am heading there in mid April for long weekend on a chartered flight from Belfast and looking for some advice.. I've looked at the other threads on here for general info, places to see etc but there are all pre-economic meltdown. I'm interested in hearing from anybody who has been here over the last few months. I'm sure the AH crew took an oath of silence on their return - what happens in Reykjavik etc etc but only lookin for general info from trip, not who teabagged who ?? Thanks in advance

Was there at the start of December. Would highly recommend the Golden Circle tour and the Blue Lagoon.

I'm living in Reykjavik at the minute. Since you're on the charter (it's for three nights or so isn't it?) I'd recommend you rent a car, then you can do the Golden Circle yourself, drive to the Blue Lagoon and get a good few other tours in. It usually works out a lot cheaper than doing everything through Reykjavik Excursions, but I'm also going by off-season prices, so car hire might be a bit more when you come over.

I'll post back when I think of some other things for you to do.

By the way, I don't think that trip ever went ahead. The thread was locked and they were considering going around the start of February, and if they did go, they never told me!

Thanks MRG77 I'm deffo planning to check them out. i'm also hoping to visit the Seljalandsfoss Falls as the pictures i've seen of it are simply incredible! Thanks for the info also DJ Stuggie - I'm going on an Irish News chartered flight from Belfast at £319stg flight only option. If anyone else is interested i can send them the info? It's April 25th-28th. I've booked into a hostel for 3 nights at €15 per night, & sure ya couldn't beat that! That said, i hope to couchsurf while i'm there if i can arrange something before then. I've wanted to visit Iceland for a number of years now and any mates that have been there give it a big thumbs up. I'm hoping to do some running there also as i'm training for a marathon at the minute - is there anywhere you'd recommend for a 10ish mile loop run with some class scenery?

Was in Iceland in the middle of December, I would definitely echo MRG77 and recommend doing the Blue Lagoon and Golden Circle tour. The Northern Lights tour can be hit and miss from going by what the locals told us, sometimes you'll see them, other times you won't. We got lucky, albeit after about two or three hours of waiting in some seriously Baltic conditions. Absolutely loved the spot overall and couldn't recommend it enough, especially the Blue Lagoon.

Cheers Dan - Yeah i'm only there for 4 days so i'm unsure if i'll be able to do everything i would like to - obviously coupled with sampling the late night reykjavik nightlife, it'll be a task n'a half :)

No bothers man. I only went for two days but managed to get a lot of the touristy stuff done. Unfortunately, being a student I didn't really have the funds to hit the town properly at night but its defo something I'd like to do in the near future, the main streets in Reykjavik were absolutely buzzing on Friday and Saturday nights. I reckon four days would be grand to get most things done tbh unless you've some mad schedule planned out.
