Impressive, the artificial zero maintenance turf even more so. However that's all well and good in sunny Texas but wonder how it would hold up in wet and miserable Ireland or why the likes of McIlroy didn't lay it in his own back yard? Could be an option for clubs also depending on how it wears given the costs of maintenance.

A friend of mine in Cork has a setup similar to that but on a much smaller scale.
He spent ~15k on building it and its very impressive.

That is class!!!! a small version in Leopardstown Driving Range - well 1 green.
Anyone know if its still there.
Know any companies in Ireland that would do a green?

This is another (Irish) company that do artificial greens etc. I know the guy who owns it, and I'd be happy to recommend him - some of the photos are of his own family's place so he uses his own product, which is always a good sign...

I made a few enquiries on a 22msquare putting green, even if I do all the preparatory work I was looking at €1,400 to €1,800 for supply and install.

I know that's a lot of money but I actually thought it would cost more.

I know, €1400 would buy a lot of green fees!!

Bloody hell - Dave Pelz making me feel very inadequate with my own back garden setup ;)

Wow, these look pretty cool. I have toyed with the idea of bringing in someone this year to try and turn my back garden into something I could putt on, but up till now had been thinking of something genuine.

Does anyone know what these things are like to touch, feel and how the actually work in our poxy climate. will it be ruined in 6months time or will it still be in good nick in 5 years time?

22sq m is quite big. I calculate my area at only about 30ft square so only a quarter the size of what you are looking at so at a quarter that money, it would be a bargain!

dont fancy to have to do loads of diggin again though after i laid my patio a couple of years back....

We had an artificial green and tee put in on my course (for the Special Olympics) and it was useful, but its now completely moss covered.
That said it gets no attention, but I think you would need to be using some sort of "wash" on it to keep it clean and stop stuff growing (a bit like chlorine in a pool)...especially when its as wet as it is now...

There's a Par 3 up in Marley Park that has artificial greens and I played on that a couple of years ago.
Definitely a different feel from the real stuff but a decent alternative all the same.

I think it was new at the time we played it, so it might be worth having a look to see what it's like 2 years later, they might have some maintenance tips for you too.

Putting on them greens was an experience I'll say that much.

True, putts seemed to gather speed as they went uphill.
I suppose they're a decent alternative to not having anything in your back yard :)

Shop around, I'd quotes of €1,400-€1,800 and got another one yesterday for €4,700:eek:

Afterthough, my quotes all assume I will be doing the groundwork preparation by the way

Was that all putting surface mate?

Yes just a putting surface and fringe, installed for the 3000 grand

I'd say half that amount was in the ground prep work, I plan on doing that myself to save money
