Can anybody recommend a company to build a one room log cabin at the side of a bungalow please?.

There are a huge number of companies on the internet but it is difficult to know which ones are actually reputable/genuine.

    Any/all recommendations by PM please.

On a side note, is it intended to connect it to the house? either way it needs planning permission, but I'm just interested.

It will be separate to the house,on a large concrete area to the right hand side of the site, facing out to the road.

Bungalow is on a main road & has neighbours on both sides.
The Companies I have contacted so far have told me I would not need planning permission if it is kept under 20 square feet approx ????

25 square meters is the exemption. As long as you have not other detached shed/garage on site.

The Companies you have contacted are wrong, I'm afraid. 20 sq ft don't enter into the exemptions anywhere.

The required exemption is S.I No. 600 of 2001.

Because the house is a Bungalow and you want to build a Log Cabin type structure to the side of the house, you will need planning permission for it.

That isn't the only restriction. As this is placed to the SIDE of the existing house, it has to have the same finishes as the house to be considered exempted, clearly it doesn't, therefore it isn't exempted.

Hi there, after much research I have ordered the cabin from a company called Botanic Living. They are based in the Tullow Area of Co Carlow. The log cabin is now on order. It is scheduled to be erected next month as per my request. It will arrive by flat pack & will be erected by the company within two days. Botanic Living have been exceedingly helpful in all aspects of the design & advice. Their price especially given the product they are providing is most competitive. Also, the feedback I received from others I contacted who have used this company was excellent. If you do decide to contact them I would advise leaving it till nearer the end of the month as they take their holidays in August when the factory which manufactures the flat packs closes for holidays. Hope this is of some help, :)

Did anyone go ahead with this or know of anyone that has had a log cabin extension attached to a house?
Thinking of doing it but (a competitor) has said there's a risk that leaks will occur as the wood settles and moves?

How will the new elements comply with our Building Regulations?

The extension to your dwelling needs to comply with building standards, or regulations as they are known. How will the timber log cabin be connected to the main house and insulation in accordance with Part L and then also ventilated in accordance with Part F etc etc etc

Would the company installing the log cabin not do all this?

No. It’s the home owners responsibility.
