I want to get a replacement inner tube for my road bike; The tyre says 700x25c and tesco are selling inner tubes that are 700x23x35c, is this still good? I have no idea about road tyres this is my first racer so any help much appreciated, also if someone can tell me what the numbers mean that would be great too!

Short answer, those tubes should be fine.

    Long answer...

700 refers to the diameter of the wheel/tyre/tube. Just to be confusing your two main choices for that are 700c (meaning, sort of, 700mm in diameter) and 26" (meaning, again sort of, 26" in diameter). These two are not compatible. If your tyre says 700c on the side then you must get tubes that say 700c too, but that won't be hard. Mountain bikes tend to have 26" wheels and road bikes (including most hybrids) have 700c wheels.

The other number (25, 32, 35, etc), basically refers to how fat the tube/tyre is. Since the tyres expand to fill the space you typically get a range for that number. This means it is very common to see a tube that says something like 700c x 25-35. This means so long as your tyres are 700c x any number between 25 and 35 the tube will fit. Note that on a 26" tube these numbers will be in inches too so it will be something like 26" x 1.5 - 2.5, but you don't care about that sine 26" tubes are no good to you.

You might be better off with 700 x 20-25 if they have those but it shouldn't really matter in my opinion. Also, I didn't know Tesco sold tubes, I'll have to check that out.

Thanks very much! they work fine. aye Tesco are selling them for just over a fiver, they don't have much of a selection though (only two sizes in road tyres) but a good few mtb sizes.
