    whats the cheapest option....

i just bought a new car 08d vectra....my old car is a 1.4 almera which i plan on giving to my brother who is a 21 and a provisional holder. now i asked around and he has no chance of getting a policy of his own..so i was thinking of keeping my old car on the road until the end of 2013 and adding him on my insurance until he passes the test then i can give him the car free of charge. and he can get insured for a reasonable price. is there anyway of getting him driving without it costing mental money? thanks.

If he tries hard enough he should be able to get a policy at around 1500 i would guess.

How are you planning to insure both your new car and the old in your name at the same time?

CianRyan on here, sound lad, drives an Almera and he's 21 on provisional. Got insurance for €1200 on it I think.

When you say you asked around did you actually sit down and ring insurance companies and get as many quotes as you could?

Don't do online quotes, sit down with the phone, a pen and paper and take a couple of hours and ring around. Things aren't as a bad as they used to be for young lads as it used to be with the whole discrimination thing, things have evened out somewhat, I know this as a young girl on provisional as my premium didn't go down this year at all. It's very possible for him to get insured on his own, which would be better for all concerned.

liberty will probably give an online quote.

yeah i think you right, the phone is the only way to go...although i did manage to get an online quote for 1400 there with 123.ie. thats pretty reasonable.

Make sure and try asking for quotes in different voices

I got insured in a 1.5 Almera when I was 19 for €1,500 through the broker Brittons Insurance while on a provisional. This was last year.

I went with axa on a 1.4 almera at 22 with a full licence for 1400. They hiked the following year so went to Britton

made a good few calls today..trying to get the brother his own policy...chill,liberty wouldn,t insure him at all, saying the quote was above their limit..5k+. which is ridiculous. my own insurance company said it would cost an additional €790 to put him on my policy. which is ok. but is there anything i can do to get it lower?

What? How is it so high?

I'm 21, provisional license.. Was getting quotes from 1500 - 2000 off most companies..

Now with 1 years driving experience it's <1500

i assume its the car. nissan almera 1.4 sport? dont know where they,re getting the sport from...its a hatchback. value roughly €800. not much more...robbing bastards. makes it impossible for a young man to get a drivers licence...

Could very well be the fact that it's a sport model..

Edit: Best bet is probably to go to a local broker :pac:

Just bear in mind that if you want to insure two cars under your name its probable that one of them will have zero NCB, meaning its going to be costly.
