Advice on where to bring my elderly parents

    Hi,
I am hoping to bring my mam and dad (70 and 72 respectively) away on a holiday AS CHEAP AS POSSIBLE (I am a student, and on a shoestring budget).
It has to be by August as my mother has cancer and probably won't be well enough after that to go. She can't walk very far without the need for rest. She loves the heat. We could not like somewhere filled with kids or partygoers and both of them love history, art and culture, so somewhere with lots to do.

Any advice? I'd be so grateful!
    Maeve

How about Portugal - have a look at Faro or Lisbon? Short flights as well.

edit - sorry i actually meant lagos rather than faro but you'd fly into faro.

Look into Majorca (Palma de Mallorca), mainly the northern side. The southern side is full of the party goers, but the north is more for the families and elderly. Went there as a kid with the family, and it was nice. I acknowledge you said August, but as that's the priciest month, I'd recommend September if at all possible.

I would recommend Malta - warm sunshine- English speaking - very few hills, English food, magnificent churches, medieval buildings, beautiful gardens, frequent bus services, and it attracts the more mature and cultured kind of visitor.

Merl1n - I don't think I'm being over-sensitive or humourless, but is that something you'd want to read, in the OP's position? Could you not just edit/delete?
OP - sorry for your situation.

Edit: Fair play for deleting, Merl1n - thanks!

    Hi there maeveDrave,

Welcome to Boards.ie. I like you planning this break away for your parents. That's really sweet of you.
Just wondering whether they would prefer a trip something here in Ireland, by the coast. It can be really peaceful; relaxing; to put the feet up and let oneself go and it just takes away angst sitting back looking out at the coast. It could be an option that would not be too expensive in terms of travel and you could use monies then to upgrade their accommodation. All the while, not being too far from home should they wish to return back sooner than initially planned :)

    Just another option/suggestion.
Well done again to you on organising this.
