€70 per wheel isn't too bad.

There's a serious amount of work involved.

OP you are underestimating the amount of work and materials it takes to bring alloy to a mirror finish.
It is a seriously long process, 5 mins with a buffer won't do it.
You could always buy the materials yourself and try it out, all you need is a drill...

I have done this. Be aware that you'll probably need to maintain the finish, unlike painted wheels that only need to be cleaned.

You may want to add wet & dry paper and a lot of prep work if you want to be able to see your reflection in them. It's a bloody dirty job too, depending on metal and polish your hands and fingernails may well be stained black.

Ive done this and its a brutal brutal task.

You will have to maintain them properly afterwards and Sealants are a must. Dont scrimp on them or youll be polishing them every 5 minutes.

I would have expected 70 bones to be a realistic price if they 'are'nt' removing laquer or something personally i would have said 50-60 is fair valuation for just bare surface polishing and buffing up.

i have done a good bit of wheel polishing and 70 is around the going rate, last set of wheels i did i logged 4 hours per rim between hand sanding and machine polishing, its not an easy job by any means

Agree with comments above there is a serious amount involved in getting a mirror finish and they are a pain to keep that way €70 is a fair price imo.

    Cheers,
they are 1978 wofrace slot mags off a reliant scimitar gte 3l v6.
so there is no lacquer on them to begin with, ive got them very shiny with about ten min per wheel using xylon aircraft polish and a simple flappy on a drill......however to get a mirror finih would be indeed torture.
    think ill pay the ca$h.

while on the alloy wheel issue i need some advice or a link please, i want to repaint my alloys my car is only my 9 year old family car but the alloys have worn in places and look like white plastic, which paint is the best for the job and where can i get some thanks

That white powdery substance is corrosion. The easiest thing to do would be to get them either sand blasted or chemical dipped. The other method is to wet sand them with various grits of sand paper. If you were just to paint them, the paint could react and bubble / peel. Just means you could end of doing the job again. Preparation is 90% of the job if you want a decent job done on them.

Found this thread (one of many), mind they only had a bit of curbing, scuff marks on the rims:

Chrome can only be done by specialists but I painted my alloys silver and they look pretty decent. Got all the materials at the local motor factors and took about 4 days. Turned out nice and cheap, cost me 50 in the end for doing the 5 alloys.

Apologies to drag up this old thread but didn't want to open new one for the same issue.

Can anyone suggest companies in Dublin or around Dublin that offer this kind of service? I want to have alloys of my Mercedes to polish in mirror finish. Maybe anyone can suggest someone. Would be interested in diamond cut as well.
