Temptation was too much for me :P

    WWE Monday Night Raw
    Air Date: July 29, 2013
    Laredo, TX

-Vince McMahon kicks off Raw with Brad Maddox, and cuts a heel promo on Daniel Bryan. The #1 contender comes out and tells Vince to listen to the WWE Universe. Vince is left standing in the ring, listening to the crowd chant "YES!"

    (1) The Shield def. Mark Henry & The Usos. After the match, Henry clears the ring and destroys the Shield by himself.

    (2) Rob Van Dam def. Fandango via count-out

-Backstage segment with AJ Lee and Big E Langston.

    (3) Kaitlyn def. AJ Lee in a non-title match.

-Dolph Ziggler came out and made fun of the romance between AJ and Langston, before challenging Big E to a match.

    (4) Christian def. Alberto del Rio in a non-title singles match, with a roll-up. The world champion got a decent pop, despite being the heel, as Laredo has a large Mexican population.

    (5) Cody Rhodes def. Wade Barrett. Damien Sandow out afterwards to cut a promo on Cody.

    (6) Daniel Bryan def. Kane. He countered the chokeslam into a roll-up to get the win.

-After the match, Kane chokeslams Bryan. The Wyatt Family comes out and Kane goes after them, but the numbers are too much. Bray Wyatt cuts a promo in the ring afterwards.

    (7) Brie Bella def. Natalya

    (8) Curtis Axel def. R-Truth.

-After the match, CM Punk attacks Axel. Paul Heyman escapes, and Punk continues the attack on Axel.

-Backstage, Triple H gets into an argument with Vince McMahon and Stephanie about the way Daniel Bryan is being treated.

    (9) John Cena def. Ryback in a tables match.

-Daniel Bryan comes down and hands Cena the WWE Championship. The show ends with Bryan starting another "YES!" chant with the crowd, and Cena leaving looking upset.

Bizzare win for Christian in the non-title match, they really have nothing planned for him do they, he seems to be on the road to nowhere.

Even thought it is good to see RVD back but it's time to get him involved in a programme, or an angle or anything really.

Actually does any body know why wasn't it Tapped, Raw Live, Smackdown, Raw and Smackdown over 2 Raws followed by 2 Smackdowns?

Surely it would have made sense and life alot easier for storytelling purposes to go Raw-Smackdown-Raw-Smackdown.

I'm wondering if this means we get Del Rio vs Christian for the title at Summerslam. That's typically a result that signals a set up for a title match.

I'm more curious about the fact Kane just seems to come back, not as a member of the Wyatts but as someone going after them....but also attacking Bryan which makes him a heel  Hoping we get a more detailed report soon.

Kane probably just got upset as he does at times and chokeslammed Bryan, was probably booked so Bryan wouldnt' be able to help Kane when the Wyatt family attacked.

I thought during RAW, that a title match for Christian was on the way as JBL was talking about Christian wanting one more match.

Never had any mass on Christian, as a singles competitor.

Thats what I was thinking, they need a face to push for the WHC and I dont think they had anyone in mind since the Del Rio Ziggler program ended but have been mentioning how Christian wants one more match for the title a lot more.
I'm more curious about the fact Kane just seems to come back, not as a member of the Wyatts but as someone going after them....but also attacking Bryan which makes him a heel  Hoping we get a more detailed report soon.

I'm guessing he will come back "not seeming himself" after the Wyatt attack, extra agressive etc when fighting Bryan culminating with him attacking Bryan after being pinned. Team Hell No is 100% over but Kane hasn't been turned or so as to say by the the Wyatts as when they appear he attacks them, perhaps protecting Bryan for whom he now regrets his actions towards. They Wyatt's beat down on him though and Bray Wyatt cuts another promo.
    ----

Dont want to see Show & Kane in a tag team so maybe The Wyatt's then interupt Big Shows return the next week and attack him only for Big Show unlike Kane to be able to fight them off and a Big Show vs Bray Wyatt match is set up for Summerslam. Show is struggling to stop the interferance from The Wyatt family during this match but looks like he may prevail when the Pyro hits and Kane comes out only for the reveal that he is actually there to help the Wyatt's leading to Bray getting the win over The Big Show on his PPV debut (Character-wise atleast). Cole etc on commentary will talk up how Kane has been Brainwashed

Not a good show to be a champion. Del Rio and AJ lose, The Shield and Axel get beat down and Cena leaves upset!

Me neither. And I can't quite put my finger on it, but since he's come back he looks so old or something, and actually comes across quite feeble at times.

Needs to change his attire too imo

My guess would be Christian or RVD or both against Del Rio at Summerslam for WHC title

Apparently Vince's promo at the start of the show is horrendous. He had an off night. Good thing it was taped.

I was wondering why there were seagull calls aka piped cheers.

How come this Raw isn't live?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

I always find wrestling boards/twitter to be so much quieter during non-live shows. Great segment with Vince/Bryan - a word of caution though, constantly bringing up Bryan's shortcomings only works if he proves them wrong.

Is Ruthless Aggression generally associated just with Cena? There's another guy I attach the phrase to...

How come this Raw isn't live?

They're on tour in Australia at the moment, so they taped this week's RAW and SD last week. Listening to Pollock & Bauer, Bauer says when that's the case they book longer matches (so there's less to book). Win-win!

No way there was that level of boos for The Shield during the entrance. It annoys me when the try to cover any pop that goes against character in post-production!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,017 ✭✭✭Chagan

I've a horrible feeling they're going to recreate the screwjob (again) at Summerslam.

Looks like the 6 man won't be at the PPV either. At least I get to see it now.

Think was in the latest Smackdown there were chants for AJ saying "You are psycho" Yet when it showed the crowd, no one seemed to be chanting it.

Q: How do you know RAW's taped?
    A : The Usos get a reaction. It's shameless!

Whenever WWE insist on piping in cheers, they should do a close up shot of the wrestlers, so you don't see the crowd sitting silently.

Did Maddox say the Wyatt's weren't here this week? They were missing last week. I really hope that's a swerve.

    yes yes they did,

those two black ones are a tag team now?

those two black ones are a tag team now?

Careful now! I'll take that as a descriptive term and nothing more... Divas don't have a tag division but they do wrestle and are on Total Divas TV show.

I take it RAWs hit a lull?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,336 ✭✭✭✭CSF

Yeah, seems Raw peaked the night after MITB and hasn't been able to hit the same heights at all since.

Can't remember who first used it but Vince used it in a significant promo around the time of the Draft didn't he? Younger fellas like Cena, Orton and Brock were just coming in and they were out to show Vince how "ruthless" they could be.

Was it Benoit that used it originally?

Benoit had the parody "toothless aggression" but the whole movement is quite a sham. All this on-screen plea from McMahons for talent in 02/03 to "show them something" whilst tightly scripting the show to root that out and line up potential money-makers to be killed by HHH... The only ruthlessness you could do is taddle on fellow wrestlers backstage...

Glad the Sandow end to Smackdown wasn't just undone.

If it were up to me I'd have the case being stalled by WWE lawyers having to cancel the sunken contract and draw up a new one until Sandow is supposed to cash in.

What was Axel talking about when he said "My father won the IC title here in Texas , but despite that went on and became Mr. Perfect!"?

I routinely get the impression Axel himself doesn't know what he's talking about (I certainly didn't on that occasion anyway).

Implying Texas is crap in a not so cutting and hard to understand way.

So Vince hates Cena now? Where's he going with that? And will Big Show be the guy he chooses?

And Ryback is now Bully Rayback?

First raw ive checked the results on in like 2 months, and I havent a clue whats going on anymore. Very sad to see the AJ/Big E/Dolph trio broken up, and whats with the shield and henry having an angle against each other. Are they not both heels?...

Might start watching again the week before summerslam.

Henry is a face now and the shield have been treading water a bit. I genuinely don't get the current WWE power struggle storyline, Vince suddenly wants Cena to lose the title for some reason and then Stephanie suggest they give a guy a makeover to please Vince.

I'd imagine the hope is that a rivalry with Vince might get Cena over. They'll literally try anything at this point but it may well be impossible.

Cena is over. He is treated as the number one guy for a reason. He sells load of merch and gets very good reactions when he comes out to the ring. I don't get why people go on about WWE trying to get Cena over and everyone to cheer him, they don't. I mean they acknowledge on nearly every show that Cena gets booed as much as he gets cheered. They openly admit it. Which is more than can be said for other faces who get booed but the WWE pretend they are loved. Maybe 5 years ago it annoyed them but now days they openly admit that there is a big section of the audience that don't like Cena and actually play it up.

Ok, let me rephrase, over with people the age of 13. It's obviously unquestionable that Cena has the demographic aged below that nailed down.

I'm twice that age and have no issue with him. He is not my favourite, but I quite like him.

I mean over in general. You don't have to be cheered to be over. I understand most males over 16 boo him but he is getting a reaction either way. Thats why it makes sense for him to feud with internet darlings suck as Punk and Bryan as while most women and kids will watch to cheer Cena on the other hand the men will watch to see him lose to those type of wrestlers.

I took your original post to mean that WWE are still trying to get Cena over as a face with all groups but I don't believe they are in fact they play up to the fact he is booed as much if not more than cheered.

Have to ask, what is the current point in the WHC if the champion has been defeated twice in 3 weeks at this stage (orton and christian)?

This is one of my pet hates and actually putting me off WWE at the moment, there is no need for the WHC since the brand split and they should simply unify the two titles again! Same goes for the IC/US titles IMO.

Yep! WWE believe it doesn't matter how they book wrestlers if they're champions. Or the MITB guy - who generally loses more matches after winning it than before. It's insane booking, but it's why WWE's championships are not any kind of draw. (Only storylines with big name wrestlers draw)

It makes it easier if you think of the WHC the equivalent of what the IC belt was back in the Hulkamania Era, and today's IC/US are worthless opening card titles.

Two "world" titles means two touring runs. One for each title. It makes them money which is all they care about at the end of the day. The IC and US provide two easy matches instead of one.

But I wouldn't expect the IC to lose cleanly twice in 3 weeks unless it was for some decent story line either
