There is some truth in that to be fair. Russia are just as bad if not worse than the US yet doesn't come under the same scrutiny.

Well for 2 and a half years Death has already marched to Syria, killed over 100,000 people, and bought the tshirt.

You'll notice there's very few trying to defend what the Russians do when it comes to human rights and arms sales.

It's laughable that people point and scream at the meagre Russian involvement in the middle east when the west has been wreaking havoc and has had a hand in the deaths of hundreds of thousands in the region in recent times.

    Some things never change though.
As a congressional report put it in 1977, “The most serious threats may emanate from internal changes in the gulf states.” Consequently, although the Soviet threat is often portrayed as the major concern, there is reason to believe that since World War II the primary target of U.S. involvement in the Persian Gulf has been internal upheaval jeopardizing U.S. influence in this highly coveted area. The gulf has long been seen as “a stupendous source of strategic power, and one of the greatest material prizes in world history.”

So it for sure that sh1ts going to hit the fan now that it is proven chemical weapons were used and the West are blaming the Syrian Regime.

The West Line-up so far -
    US
    UK
    France

    Syrian Line-up so far -
    Syria
    (Russia ?) TBA

    Statements -

    US
US forces in the region are “ready to go”, defense secretary Chuck Hagel said, as Washington and its European and Middle Eastern partners honed plans to punish the Assad regime for a major poison gas attack last week that killed hundreds of civilians.

    UK
We have tried those other diplomatic methods and we will continue to try those, but they have failed so far,” the Foreign Secretary told the Today programme.
He suggested that it was possible and legal for countries to take military action in response to chemical weapons attacks without securing agreement from the UN Security Council first.

“Here is a large scale chemical attack for which there is no possible explanation other than that it has been carried out by the Assad regime,” he said.

“Certainly, we and the United States, and many other countries, including France are clear that we can’t allow the idea in the 21st century that chemical weapons can be used with impunity.”

Mr Hague declined to discuss “the military options” that the government is considering but refused to rule “in or out” a strike within days.

    France
French President Francois Hollande said Tuesday that his country is prepared to take action against those responsible for gassing people in Syria.
"France is ready to punish those who took the heinous decision to gas innocents" in Syria last week, Hollande said at a conference with France's ambassadors. He did not elaborate.
"I have decided to increase our military support to the National Syrian Coalition," the main Syrian opposition group in exile, he also said

So will this be a drawn out war or in and out within days.

I'd be shocked if there was anything more than a few strategic missile strikes on "chemical weapons facilities", if even. We're not going to see any major escalation given the position of Russia and China.

    No oil equals no war.

But there is oil in that region.

Syria will become another proxy state for the US in the region.

I wonder if Wael Nader al-Halqi will start for Syria? He has a great left peg on him. Worth a €5 punt for first goalscorer.

Good point, as if they're going to f**k with Russia and China, I wouldn't think so.

I doubt the Russians will care as long as the airstrikes are kept away from Tartus naval base.

No state in the east will put their neck out economically for the sake of Syria. This war will move too fast for infantry and result in a few air strikes followed up by UN deployment.

Would America ever but out of things? All for their own interests of course.

Obama comes over here, says a few words of Irish, downs a pint of Guinness and gives a rousing speech yet behind it all he's the same as George Dubya.

I think the US are stuck between a rock and a hard place

If they do something they are asked why?

If they don't do something they are asked why not?

I get why The U.S invaded Iraq. They started selling oil in Euros instead of Dollars. But why are they interested in Syria? Any oil there, while very small in reserve, is in Eastern hands only, no?

Its a joke. All these politicians rushing to put the blame on Syria for the awful attack. It just doesnt seem right, why would Assad have a chemical weapon attack just down the road from a UN chemical weapon inspector on the day they arrive. Then they point to the fact that he wont let the UN team go to the area, the area is not even in their hands but in the hands of the rebels. The same rebels that are littered with jihadists whom, i imagine, wouldnt think twice about setting up something like this to get the reaction from the west that they have been getting.

Its disgusting, Syria had some serious issues before this war. But Assad's regime is no different and no worse from others in the area. In fact, it was a secular state where all religions lived side by side. The west are supporting the wrong side in this war for their own political gains and the losers are normal people who only want to live their lives.

If it is proved that Assad was behind the attack then I hope he pays for it, but until proof is shown then I have serious doubts about the validity of that claim.
