Harder than an iPod but not as hard as a violin.

If your serious I think you'll pick up a good second hand guitar for about €150 which is better value than a new rubbish guitar.

Also factor in about 20 lessons to get you started. It will speed up the learning process.

dont bother with argus. no matter how cheap or expensive an instrument is, you have to play it first to see if it is worth crossing the road for. its best to get someone who can play to have a look at it first just to be sure that it doesnt have a fretboard like a bit of 3x2.
budget is everything when buying. if you just won the lotto, try and get a martin. if havent, cort, squire or yamaha maybe. tanglewood make some nice midrange stuff.
no instrument is easy to play but neither is it too hard to knock a tune out of. and lessons would be no harm if you can afford it.

I got three books by a fella called Russ Shipton. Beginner, intermediate and advanced. If you have a bit of time on your hands (at least two hours a day) they come in handy. I couldn't really afford lessons and i can play fairly well so they're not essential, but they do help. I've always compared learning guitar to learning a new language. At first everything will seem so strange and impossible but keep at it and eventually it'll come naturally to ya..

Totally agree with the other posters, you get what you pay for and try em out - the second hand market is pretty good an you can get fairly good quality stuff that plays well relatively cheap.

A crappy quality intrument will make you throw in the towel if its not comfortable - because initially you will have to put hours in just to get the basics working - the hardest work in learning the guitar is actually in the early days when things dont feel natural for your hands but once you get over that you can start learning using your head and ears - learning scales, understanding how they make the chords, understanding the octaives on the fretboard. You can progress pretty quickly once you grind through the early days of tecnique.

Stick with it buddy you'll never be bored

I passed a shop on south richmond street today, a music shop there had nice looking guitars in their window on sale, marked down half price to 130ish i think, if you were in the area, might be worth a look
