Looks like I might be able to take Friday off and thinking of taking my Dad out for a game.

These are some courses that we haven't played (and wanted to)

I'm thinking most people would go for Concra Wood, and Headfort, is there anything to be said for the other two instead, price range are all similar.

Havent played concra wood, but if given a choice between the other 3 Headfort would be 1st on my list, would easily pick it over the other two.

If pushed I'd choose tulfarris over rathsallagh, nicer layout & better views imo.

Believe concra is a beaut of a course though

You won't go wrong with concra or headfort new but bear in mind that concra is very hilly and think about hiring a buggy.

The order you have them in is about right. Concra Wood would have more hills, so depends on what sort of energy you guys have. Headfort is flat by comparison but beautifully colourful

I have played them all with the exception of Concra Wood (which I will put right weekend after next) & would have to agree with previous opinions on Headfort New. A cracking course....

Thanks chaps, more or less confirms what I thought,

I would prefer a walk as I think the weather might be ok (touch wood), and the old man probably wouldn't be arsed trekking up hills, so would be a buggy for Concra, so probably Headfort it is. Will save Concra for another day then.

Just saw a fee for 27 euro for Headfort, you can't go wrong with that.

I'd pick Headfort New over Concra Wood every day of the week, just my opinion. Long enough walk but you won't need a buggy, you may need one for your father on Concra Wood.

Tulfarris hollow spiked their greens Mon/Tues, will need at least a week, when I played it last week the course could have done with some attention from the mowers...flat course

Played Headfort New on Sunday morning for the first time, cracking course alright, even the miserable morning couldn't ruin it.

Just came back from 15 days of golf in Ireland. I loved Headfort (new). Even had a fox come out on the par 3 11th. Also liked the clubhouse a lot. Concra Wood was very scenic and agree you need a buggy. I would go back to both but prefer Headfort

Where else did you play out of interest? There's a 125 euro pass for Baltray. Headfort and Knightsbrook. which seems great value

We had a great trip. 22 rounds 15 days, buggies at each course except Ballybunion. We played Galway Bay, Ballinrobe, Wesport, Carne (2x), Enniscrone, Strandhill, County Sligo, Rosapenna (Old Tom Morris ), Portsalon. Letterkenny, Concra Wood, Headfort (New), Rathcore, Druids Glen, Greystones, Ring of Kerry, Skellig bay, Dooks, Ballybunion (old and Cashen), and finished at Shannnon.

Great weather, Wonderful scenery. Best part was the people we met and the Guiness. Trying to talk the lads in to doing this again in 2 years with different courses.

Holy fu*ck man, what a trip, that is legendary stuff. Delighted you got the weather, he who dares and all that.

You must have put so much though into the courses you had to drop, Tralee, Narin Portnno in Donegal? Baltray, Portmarnock, European club etc

Was it based on value for money or following a route? People probably think you are mad, that is more than a golf holiday, it's a golf boot camp lol

It was AWESOME. We played based on price. Tried to keep the price around 50 euros. And also tried to circle Ireland. Needed a few more days since we had to skip some courses around Wicklow and Cork. that's for the next trip.

We originally had planned for 26 rounds but we wore out after day 6 and skipped a few rounds---getting too old for 36 EVERY day.

And folks along the way did think we were mad.... but they wished they were joining us.

You should make a thread and talk about it, I think people would be intrested to hear more about it.

Headfort New is a great golf course. And you don't need to play it off the back tees. Play off the yellows, keep your ball in play and you'll enjoy it just as much. You won't need a buggy but there are a couple of little hills in the middle of the back 9 and its a long enough walk so maybe a battery powered caddy. The fox on 11th will come out to see you as well.

No fox today, but what a course.

I fond that although there is a lot of water, thin fairways, and greens protected like fort knox, the rough is very playable and gives you something back, making it as enjoyable a course to play as I have in years.

All the Par 3's are excellent, every hole is a delight to play, and think your way round.

Food in clubhouse was good too.

Edit : Oh yeah, there was on temporary green , Par 3 11th, but that was no biggie.

Glad you enjoyed it John. I'm biased as I'm lucky enough to be a member there. The 11th green suffered a bit in the hot weather earlier in the summer. It's a green set amongst the trees and gets less light and less sun than any other. In winter it takes longer to thaw out. So occasionally it becomes problematic. Hopefully it will be back to itself soon. Even though 11 is the only Par 3 with no water I actually think it is the toughest of all. If you're even a little bit crooked off the tee you'll hit a tree. Straight as an arrow and spot on for distance needed.

Come back and play again. Try the Old at some stage too. Gentler and more old fashioned but very enjoyable and a good test of golf. And trees, lots of trees.

Yes I'll definitely be back. will bring the brothers along.,

I was actually dissapointed when I saw the temporary, because that setting is really great, a walk away from the other holes through old dark Forrest, as you say the trees come in tight. I can see why the light is a problem though for the greens.

The 9th, 10th are magic holes too leading up to it.

I birdied the temporary anyway, rammed it in the big hole, couldn't miss lol.
