Driving northbound on M50 last night about 8:45 around Blanchardtown exit Garda Car with multiple lights flashing holds all northbound traffic 9 (3 lanes) at about 40mph until we got past the Finglas exit. Anyone any idea what that could have been about ..no accidents further up M50 ?

Could be clearing away a dead animal or clearing debris from the road.

Any sight of a garda car usually has all lanes on either side slowing to a crawl

it's called a rolling road block. They maneuver between the three lanes, preventing anyone from passing. Then once the road ahead is clear they kill the lights.

Had a similar experience about 2-3 months ago, just past maynooth on the M4/6.

Was interesting to say the least

It's enough if they hold up the most right lane.
No one is allowed to undertake them.

I saw that from the opposite side, I assumed they were clearing something from the road. Anyone know why the M50 southbound was closed at J6 this evening?
